Hi, maybe is a commun subject, but I want to know how do you deal with the lack of pmo, or with the lack of p. While having the addiction, our brain needs to be stimulated all the time, you need to see new images, new ideas all the time. Internet is perfect for this; the limit is your imagination. All type of fantasies you can imagine is already in the web, in some video or pic.

So, when you decided to stop looking at those images, when you decided to stop p in your life, how do you compensate the lack of "new and exciting ideas" in your mind?

I know exercise and "doing more productive things or doing that thing you allways wanted to do" is recommended by many fapstronauts. But those are ACTIONS. I'm talking here of IDEAS. How do you compensate the lack of exciting and no-limit-for-imagination ideas in your brain?

I choose intellectual challenges. Specifically, before stopping PMO Friday night was very likely to be a solo night filled with creative sexual exploration that could easily extend well into Saturday. What I have replaced it with is learning a new way of thinking. In my case, I have an interest in computer programming, but am a novice at imperative programming and choose to take on programming challenges each evening. The challenges expand my mind by forcing me to utilize both mathematics (something I find creative and fun but my brain has been starved of for years) and computer science (which is very new and tough for me). Ideas are generated by what I'll call current creativity theory. Building up domain expertise in a new field increases awareness and allows you to build good neural links from what you have known in the past to this new-found area. Domain expertise and a study of the fundamentals lays the groundwork for creative idea generation. When I task myself with specific life problems, I am cognizant to use creativity theory to help me answer them. Notably, I'll consciously both use a diffuse mode of thinking combined with focused efforts and spaced repetition to allow my brain to build acceptable solution structures. This helps the brain grow and expand its intellectual capacity. I think about understanding simple things deeply and focus on mastering fundamentals. Nearly anything you look at has a deeper structure. You just need to expand the mind beyond the porn microcosm and see what is out there (see your own negative space).

Spatial and three dimensional imagination can be easily used in the subject of mathematics and are a welcome change from porn. Do you recall Einstein's use of riding a light beam to help explain how light can act as particle/wave in your basic physics course? Many problems can be framed visually and solutions will appear and greater understanding can emerge. For an easier time, something like TED talks and academic lectures provide an endless source of novelty. TED talks 'are' a bunch of people presenting essentially nothing but cutting edge and world-changing/eye-opening ideas. Lectures and academic material encourage you to lean into discomfort and expand your current understanding of the world.

It is a bit subtle, but you can manage and balance your interests in learning if you are careful. When you understand how to incorporate exercise, nutrition, sleep, time with family, and time relaxing with your new creative lifestyle, you can actually enhance all of the areas. Exercise has a new motivation to provide sufficient cognitive enhancement through better blood flow, diffuse thinking etc. You nutrition does more than just give you some longevity and you have the ability to seek out new relationships and interactions with people that have greater meaning. Expand your mind and expand your life. Good luck.

Very interesting. Thanks for your ideas. Actually, you makes me remember a period, in the beginning of my rebooting process, where I was very interested in the cosmos, the univers, the space, the time, the gravity...that was almost as exciting as pmo and I remember I left the pmo some days for dedicate myself to those searchings of knowledge. Remplacing thoughts with deeply understanding challenges for the brain really works.

I'm not a big lover of mathematics or sciences, haha, but I thing I can also find some new areas of knowledge to develop my brain creativity. I'm thinking in drawing, for example. When I was a kid, I remember I could create characters, stories, and I created some comics. Nowadays I continue drawing, but I have lost my capacity to invent; I always need a model (object, landscape or people) in front of me for drawing. I feel empty of ideas. Maybe trying to find them could be a good exercise.

Thanks again for your advice. Its really interesting.

Someone else has another idea? What do you think about this thought-replacing method?
