GoPro Camera experiment

Good afternoon good people, I have an idea for a "social experiment", and I want you to please help me to determine if is an idiotic idea or not. Today I was watching a video about commuting times, and it was this guy just commuting and recording with a GoPro-like camera. I cannot link the video since I watched on Facebook.

It is an interesting video, but what I noticed is that this guy is recording everything, including people. That's when I thought, wouldn't it be interesting to record my day to day, write down how I felt during the day (meaning, did I felt confident?, was i anxious?, were women ignoring me or looking at me?), and in the case I do it, what would it be a good way to measure these things?

Please feel free to call me an idiot if you think this won't work, I want some opinions before I think spending money on something I just use once.

    Really cool idea!

I journal every morning and sometimes throughout the day when I need it.

Our mind tends to lie to us and cover up our true feelings, so journaling and exploring/searching for the truth is very helpful.

For example, someone says something to me (doesn’t really matter what they say) that hurts me for some reason. I get offended, my mind tells me they hate me, they dont care about me, f*ck them! I should go home and PMO all day cuz life sucks and the world sucks and my life is over.....irrational but this is how I think sometimes!

So to go home and journal instead, I find out none of the above is true and a more likely explanation is that they meant nothing by what they said, or even they were just trying to help me!!

Exploring your day and why things happen and why you reacted the way you did or why you were feeling a certain thing is a huge part of my daily recovery and has save me from relapse more than once. It helps me stay honest and that is a major part of recovery.

I probably spend about 15-20 minutes per day journaling at most and it’s more than enough for me ATM.

  3. Call me Mr. Negative, I think there are issues.

Some people won't appreciate you recording them. It may be illegal to do so without their consent. And if you want to go back and find something, unless you know *exactly* when it happened, it will be very time-consuming to find it.

A written, (or typed into the computer), is easier to scan through, especially as (in the computer) you can search for words.

I've been using a Journal I keep on my computer, although I've gotten really bad at writing to it every day.

I see what you mean. I meant more like recording my commuting, to see the interactions with random people. The disadvantage with a Journal is that you cannot determine what really happens outside your head, for example, when I feel like everyone are looking at me like judging, that¿s how I feel, but not necessarily is what is happening in the outside world. I agree with the time consuming part, not to mention it won't be cheap

  5. I see your point, too. Having the evidence on tape could be useful.

That's what I think, I really appreciate your opinion man, the time consuming part would be a problem

Oh I see what you’re saying, actually filming your day.

That would be super cool to prove to yourself that your mind is lying to you or that you are correct! :)

I’m actually working on this with my therapist right now in a way that doesn’t take a camera and hours viewing footage in post. She’s doing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with me. Basically the premise is reframing our thinking to be less self-loathing.

For example, “everyone is looking at me.” CBT would say, “yes this is one option, but what are other equally as plausible options?” 1. They aren’t looking at me 2. Some are looking at me but it’s because they like my cool shoes 3. Most people are concerned with themselves and not me 4. They’re all spacing out in my direction and thinking about what toppings they want in their pizzas etc...

Learning to reframe our first thought and start to believe that the other possibilities are also possible is basically what CBT is.

Not sure this type of self-help therapy would be good for you or not. I’m just super excited about it cuz I’m doing it right now :)

  9. It would be great, but first of all, there are legal questions and then you're kind of strange when you have a camera on your chest or on your head.
It is basically and extended, technology based diary.
