First relapse...

    ...just happened. It was a weird experience - like going totally mindless and primitive. It was without porn, which has never happened for me before, so maybe that's some kind of progress...?

    Feeling: down, tired, ashamed, pissed, and maybe on the edge of being re-motivated. It was really hard to get back online here and reset that counter. I now see some value to setting a reasonable goal as opposed to just letting the counter track on endlessly - at least to start.

    Feeling much respect for anyone who has relapsed, reset that counter, dusted themselves off, and started again.

    Commence Day 1, again.

    Write in a word file what do you feel now or what you felt just after relapse. Write everything, in detail, what you felt after it, what PMO steals from your life and why you want to stop PMO. Let the words come from your heart, it will be stronger when you read it next time. Store this file on your screen and next time you will feel that you want to PMO just try open it first. Read whole text and it should stop you. Because when you really feel that you want to PMO your brain forgets that you actually want to stop. When you open this file your brain will recall that you do not want to do it. Try it.

    And what does it mean that just happened? What were you doing? Were you surfing at the Internet and happened? Were you watching movies on youtube and happened? Were you cooking and happend? Think for a moment what you were doing and try to avoid it next time. I frankly do not understand people who e.g. know that while they are watching movies on youtube there is a huge possibility that they will see something which makes them want to PMO. And they still do this, do not avoid it.

    I am sorry to read this...

    Govinda, I am not sure how much you managed before you failed. I would consider in your case to set the counter a bit lower than 90 days.

    Reason:

    1. 90 days is tough. I mean really tough. Sometimes reaching smaller target can motivate you more. (you can start with 30 days and when you reach them you can extend. This can boost your self confidence quite a lot)

    2. Find out what the trigger was and remove it.

    3. Set up webfilter (k9).

    4. Keep it enabled at all times and change the password to something you don't know (so that you have to reset via email)

    5. Get a DNS blocker like SelfControl.app(Mac Software but there are windows alternatives) (it will block the traffic to the blacklisted sites and there is nothing you can do about it but reinstall the computer(for upto 24 hours) I was even blocking my email for the k9)

    6. Join the gym, to deal with the extra energy.

    7. Either start to practice religion or some guys here do meditation(to heal your mind)

    8. After you relapse, normally you relapse a several times afterwards. Address it rather sooner than later...

    Thanks for your reply, man. Took your advice on writing how I felt after the relapse in as much detail as I could. You're dead-on - my brain totally forgot I wanted to stop and the reasons why.

    'just happened' was a reference to time - as in it happened just before writing the post - not that I was surfing the net looking at videos or anything that made me want to PMO.

    Thanks for your response, Tyler. I think I'll take your advice and shoot for 30 days - actually, I'll take all your advice. I feel what some guys have told me is the 'chaser effect' - which really sucks and pisses me off, so I think I'll take all the help I can get right now. Thanks a lot for your help, man.
