Hi, I'm Rich, I'm 33 years old. I'm currently a grad student in psychology. I was googling if there was any pledge I could sign to challenge myself to go without porn for at least 30 days. And I was pleasantly surprised to find this place where not only was there pledge and challenge, there's a whole lot more stuff to help one control their unhealthy desires.

I came here because I wanted to curb the urges for compulsive porn watching so that I could have a more peaceful, quiet mind and life. I started watching porn when I wasn't even 16. And I noticed how, over the years, I became habituated to the regular stuff and went to ever more extreme stuff. But more pernicious than that, I started seeing how my attitude toward women changed -- I would objectify them, sexualize their body parts, their dresses, fantasize raping them -- basically, dehumanize them. That's what I see as the real danger of porn. Also, excessive porn watching and masterbating sometimes makes my prostate area really uncomfortable and it probably got me an urine tract infection as well (So it's bad for the mind and the body!).

I don't know how far I could go so I decided to do a 30-day challenge first. I do hope though, with the help of like-minded fapstronauts I could go far. And I will definitely share my experiences in the journey and help others with their battles. It's great to feel that you are NOT alone.

P.S. I was surprised to see the website ranks 13,124 in traffic among all US-based websites, which is pretty astonishing- that just tells us how many people are really concerned about this and try to overcome it.

  2. You made the right choice. Many, including myself, have experienced what you describe re having the mind wonder into increasingly perverse territory. This has both spiritual and scientific explanations. As you educate yourself on the dangers to the brain posed by PMO and other forms of addiction, you may realise that many view this as a permanent lifestyle change rather than a challenge. It is just way too destructive and not worth hanging onto. Platforms like these have allowed men to reaffirm and encourage others and tear down the walls of isolation and stigma generated by the false narratives of masculinity fed to us by society. And I encourage you to look into the history of these 'bread and circus' tactics as a means of population control. In any case I am not here to force my opinions on you but rather to support you in your journey. God bless you.
