Exercise and Testosterone

    I have a question for discussion among the more scientifically knowledgeable around here.

    Exercise has been incredibly important in my life. I have only been exercising regularly for two and a half years, but exercise was an important part of overcoming insomnia and depression.

    My longest NoFap streak was while I was running five days a week.

    The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg and Willpower by Baumeister and Tierney both teach the benefits of exercise on willpower and the formation of healthy habits.

    Exercise is a "keystone habit" that changes a number of other things in our lives.

    About a year and a half ago I stopped running and started weightlifting. This is because I was 5'10" and 110lbs and wanted to gain weight, energy etc. I noticed more positive benefits from weightlifting/bodybuilding than running. I had more confidence, was more energetic etc. I definitely increased in discipline and willpower, but weightlifting also increases testosterone levels. While I have all the added benefits, I also notice an increased sex drive.

    This was most pronounced during my first year of lifting. In order to gain muscle, you need more testosterone and all bodybuilding routines will try to maximize your natural testosterone.

    Does anyone have thoughts and opinions about what the best exercise for NoFap is? Are there any studies on this? As I said, I had my longest NoFap streak while running. I experience more benefits across the board with bodybuilding, but also increased libido.
     
  2. As far as I have read complex compound exercises is where it's at. Olympic lifts, squats, deadlifts, etc.
