If we compare our addiction with, say, alcoholism, could you also say something similar like “once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic”?

What if "addiction" is simply a destructive habit that brings us down the ladder of life? You are not the habit. The habit is not you.

A harmful habit is easy to stop if you realize that there are more disadvantages than benefits. An addiction is more difficult to break. An addiction does take over your life. Of course, with sufficient willpower, perseverance, knowledge and, if necessary, help, an addiction can be broken.

Habit: "a settled or regular tendency or practice, especially one that is hard to give up." The key word here is tendency.

Well, whether we call it "habit" or "addiction," or whatever I guess it's not a big deal. Here's something to think on:

“The term “addiction” is used precisely to describe a more virulent form of the search for happiness that has become chronic and destructive.”

You have to fight it with passion every single day. It is a brutal process.

“Only when you are in pleasant states of experience your body and brain work best. The moment you become dead serious, your brain is frozen; it cannot work to its full potential. If you want to effect real change, you need a certain level of exuberant energy.”
