The fact that IQ test represent and Intelligence quota, or limit makes it irrelevant. But we must consider how we define intelligence> commonly related to the ability to learn or acquire knowledge and ACCURATELY apply what was learnt or acquired. With that definition, a child's intelligence would be not necessarily be higher that an adult, as the notion of kids learn faster imply. But efficiency in learning and applying is what determines intelligence. Case in point, I have no expertise in engineering. Yet, I built a hydroponic system with proper water flow and gradients. How? Learn and Apply over a period of time. And I can repeat the process much faster now.

TO answer your question... No. it cannot be fixed. I hate to use this example for offending others, but if an autistic person can learn to play a violin (Not a VIOLA), then that cap or fixed does not exist.

We know for a fact that intelligence has both a genetic as well as a enviromental component. If identical twins grow up in two different enviroments they will score differently in IQ tests. If intelligence was purley genetic identical twins would have to score the same because they have the same genetics.
So no ist not fixed, get back to your homework :)

Being a part of an identical twin, we just share the same DNA. Nothing else I suppose. I'm Red, He's Blue. Stuff like that. And I kid you not, we had our trouble days as kids. ;).

This is epigenetics, and although that may be a factor in what we learn, and although each person has an aptitude to order the info they receive (genetics), it remains that that the amount of information we process remains the same across mammals and species within such. Intelligence is just a symbol, and the pursuit of such may be counterproductive in the pursuit of enjoyment, being that it can become a false idol (it was for me).

  7. I don’t think intelligence is fixed. However, I think there are tools in place that stop your intelligence.

One example I can apply this to is porn. think about porn. It stops your progress on accomplishing tasks. It’s in place to keep you addicted and stunts development.

Social media, technology, calculators, etc. people don’t have to think anymore.

Interesting enough. The first computer (turing) was sort of a calculator of not numbers, but words. Yeah it definitely limited the application part. But the learning part... maybe not. I practiced a lot on a calculator when i was younger. Eventually understanding the math, I began to work without it. Still do mental maths (even as a deterrent to urges) rather than use my phone.

This term might be misinterpreted easily. Technology improved the speed of learning and the way we learn, therefore it can be seen as contributing to intelligence. You see it in the academic world. Is it not technology that is currently maintaining education? Even before the pandemic forces virtual schooling. International studies was on the rise.

  10. So in the American school system they aren’t teaching intelligence anymore, they are confusing the children and giving kids even more technology. Each kid gets a computer.

Example: what is 8+4, you would say 12. You counted up. Wrong. 4 breaks into 2 and 2 You add the 2 to the 8 to make ten then 10 + 2 = 12.

See how confusing this is. Literally having kids do more work.[/QUOTE]

Forgive me for laughing, but I've seen countless memes on these things. And of course, being a meme, you do not take it seriously.

American academics always differed. It why they have their own version of English. Ain't is a word and not aren't. I never understood how Harvard still remains viewed as the Top Tertiary Institution. I know about their screening process. And I do have a few colleagues who attended there. On the topic of intelligence, A Harvard and an Oxford represents the same value. As seen in the work place. I, who hold a UK base BA, does the same job, if not faster and more accurate, than the guy with his Harvard.

I guess name has a lot to do with it. Intelligence is diminishing.

    Good points about Harvard!

A lot of Degrees offered in American schools now are about American Social issues that have no value or use in the real world. It’s wrong man, Harvard teaches gender studies but doesn’t teach these kids how to make a budget.

So if I am an employer and I have an accountant position open and I have Sarah who has a degree in Women’s Rights or I have you who has a degree in lets say Math....Yes, I’m going to chose you because Sarah is basically useless.

  13. Intelligence:

    • varies massively between individuals. For many reasons — IQ is 50–80% genetic while I would argue other types of intelligence are mostly environmental.
    • develops within one individual over their lifetime, and never stops changing.
    • fluctuates massively within one individual with biochemical changes.
If the last part isn’t obvious, test your ability to accomplish complex goals after not sleeping at all, while you have the flu, right after having an intense argument or after drinking 10 shots of espresso.
