I've just made it past a week without falling victim to my addiction but the last two nights have seen the urges get very strong. It has been really hard to resist, particularly tonight as I finished work early and had a lot of time to kill. I managed to stay focused and watched a movie instead but I almost buckled. Does anyone out there with past experience of getting through this stage have any advice?

  2. Books and video games seem to work well for me. Many people swear by cold showers and meditation...although I can’t get into either of them. Maybe it will work for you.

Thanks Tiger. I do mediaton once a day and that does help. Maybe I need to dig out my old Playstation and finally try to complete Grand Theft Auto San Andreas

  4. Sometimes the video games work well, man. They work wonders for me. Don’t binge on the video games though...that can be unhealthy in itself. I tend to play them whenever my urges are the strongest.

I agree, having been addicted in the past to Football Manager. I'm actually hoping to fill the porn void by doing more creative writing. Been six years since I wrote my novel and I'm getting tired of people asking when I'm going to write the next one

  6. Well there you go! Get to scribbling, my man! That could help tremendously.

  8. Employ the five second rule: Thought comes in regarding M or P, only allowed five seconds to linger. If it persistently keeps coming back, get up, change activities even if that simply means a walk around the block. Refuse to entertain the thought. Sometimes it is like a toddler that you have to keep saying "No" to, sometimes it is like a tornado that you have to say "No #*&@ way!" and change to a more engaging opportunity, like an intense video game. I know it sucks when it keeps at you, but that is the consequence of the years of P and M. Job one now is to walk our walk. Nothing is as important, because this underpins our wellbeing in all other endeavors.

Thanks for your advice, pretty sound reasoning. Thankfully, I've managed to resist and it's getting easier now the longer I stay away from my addiction

Best of luck my friend. I think the only way to genuinely beat this addiction/mentality is to steep oneself in antiporn literature and media and the accounts of other people trying to de-hypersexualize themselves (like this forum).

Regarding your book, what kind of authors do you like to read?

  11. You could go for long walks to 'cool' down the urges.
Also have you tried intermittent fasting? I've read from other veteran rebooters that it is especially effective on days when the urges hit you really hard!
I intend to try it out myself. Second week is my weakness too.:( but this time i'll do my best..
It's actually cool to know that you've been a creative writer. Maybe you can spend more time on it. Good luck to you on this week and the days after...

If you get urges when you are watching a movie a simple 'fix' may be to get down and do 20 or 30 push ups then get back to the film... keep repeating and the urge will be replaced by other more positive sensations.

I definitely second this. Doing pushups as an associative action in relation to urges will in time create an impulse that not only is good and beneficial to your physicality and mental state, but also combative towards PM.

Good advice in this thread, unfortunate that there is no bulletproof solution, but if it were that easy we wouldn't need a forum I suppose. I find that immediately switching activities seems to help.

My favourites are probably Gunter Grass, Victor Serge, Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Roddy Doyle, pretty eclectic mix. But my writing is more comedic, with a dark twist

Thanks Sid, fasting is out because I've got a seriously speedy metabolism. Missing just one meal knocks me out of kilter. Filling the void with writing is a better idea. Since quitting, I've managed to release a second edition of my book. Now I need to start writing another
