I am a new member today and have 1 whole day of abstinence after having enough of porn, edging and camming on live sites for exhibition and masturbation with others almost a couple of hours everyday. I'm in a brain fog now and have very little interest in anything else. I really need to start a program of recovery and get a life. Many of the posts here are very encouraging and I need release from this captivity of addition. Any advice would be appreciated since I have allowed this disease to hijack my very being to really enjoy life.

Good luck with your journey. I just joined up yesterday and already have gotten a lot of great information. Just stick with it the best you can and learn as much as you can to help yourself. Everyone is here to help you too so remember that. Good luck man!

Welcome Sans!, an advice i can give you is avoid the triggers, catch the things that provoke you when they are small before it escalates, take back the control

I am going to keep it short. Education and tools.

    Education:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_RIm9ZMN1I

Watch the vid, take notes, watch it again. Understand what porn does to our brains.

    Tools:

Porn blockers, search engine blocker, posting here and reading here and replying. Do things that are not searching for porn. Porn is the culprit. Seeing it, thinking it, imagining it, remembering it, watching it, PMOing, and porn substitutes (triggers that are not actually porn, but cause that dopamine release). Take affirmative steps to eliminate porn from your life; try not to even think of it.

PMO free here for quite a while. It won't happen without withdrawal. Withdrawal = pain, so, expect it, endure it, want it.

This is a process, not an event, so you will fail initially. But your long term goal has to be to totally quit it, never go back. Period.

    Good luck on your journey.

    Sans,

    Check out YourBrainOnPorn.com and YourBrainRebalanced.com

It is true when you hear knowledge is power. Learn as much as you can about porn addiction and recovery from it. It will truly help. Also, read people's stories on here. You will see you are not alone. That's really helps as well. And please stay away from triggers. When you feel one coming on. Start doing something fun ( wholesome and clean), active ( sports, exercise, stretching, etc), or productive ( talking with friends or family about anything)

    Good luck!!!!

I too am a new member today. I am excited about having this support. I have been an addict for many years. I started an support/accountability group a little over two years ago. There are over 60 men in the group. The guys in the group range in age 20-70's. This is a life-long journey that I believe can only be handled on a daily basis. If think too far into the future I get discouraged and am inclined to just give up. I don't think that anyone can successful achieve success without a spiritual base....we all need Divine intercession. We all need to be kind to ourselves....to be patient and not to expect success overnight. It's taken some time to develop this and it's going to take time to find healing. When we fall it is important to forgive ourselves. If we believe that God truly forgives us then it is prideful not to forgive ourselves. I also think that it is very important to become part of a men's group that deals with purity. They are out there. There is nothing like talking to someone in person and breaking the cycle of isolation that brought us to this problem in the first place.

    Hello and welcome!

This might sound a bit trite but this is a copied and pasted message because I think its important to greet people but don't have to time to type out the same message every time. So rather than just ignore people I figured it would be good to do this?

Just to get you started can I just make the following suggestions (and they are only suggestions)?

    1. Head over to the forums at the top of the main page. Don't be shy. Wade in and see what grabs your interest. Start a thread. Help others and be helped just by getting involved. Plus its the PERFECT antidote to fapping!

    2. Check out the website yourbrainonporn if you haven't already and make use of the brilliant resources there.

    3. Consider doing a 90 day reboot and get yourself a tracker (see bottom of this post)

    4. Lighten up! Humour really is the best medicine and can really help you see things from a new and and helpful perspective. (And you need that more than anything right now. Right?)

    5. Consider reading the book 'Changing for Good' by James O Prochaska. Is a particularly helpful tool for those who want to make positive and LASTING change in their life. Several of us have found this to be an indispensable tool.

    7. Don't get into arguments (especially over the usual politics/religion stuff) We are all human here and we are in this together regardless of our chosen 'path' (even if you believe truth is a 'pathless' land!)

    6. Thank the founder of this site Alexander. It really is making the world a better place (I truly believe that!) And credit where its due I say!!

    7. Greet and encourage newcomers...;-)

All the very best to you :)
