Could an "indulgence" therapy work?

  1. I know that something like that works for cigarettes I've read. Participants were basically forced to smoke like let's say 60 cigarettes a day instead of their regular 20. After a while, it became so disgusting and "too much" of smoking that they voluntarily without difficulties decided to take a break from smoking for some days. For some participants, it was enough to be disgusted of smoking and they quit forever.

    Could something like this work for PMO and fetishes?

    Like you'd force yourself to watch P and MO as much as you can, or live out some fetishes like crossdressing so after a while it "becomes like nothing"? So in the end, you'd have the "energy" to quit for some weeks and eventually you may be able to break free if you use this "sexually exhausted and disgusted by PMO" time to build better habits in order to control that "urge-less state"?

    In a nutshell what I mean: You PMO as much as you can so that you'd get disgusted by it, you use that feeling then to quit PMO for some weeks, during those weeks you build good habits to keep going for way longer and eventually break free

    The idea is to abuse the addictive substance to reach a point of utter disgust supposed to increase the likelihood of withdrawal. Could we please have references of the study?

    According to this theory, an alcoholic would benefit from drinking until ethylic coma or an heroin addict consuming until heroin-related death. Extremely dangerous.

    A PMO addict would binge to extreme depression and self-hate. As a consequence, he would consume even more P to cope with the symptoms. Damaging effects on mental health.

    Conclusion: It is dangerous. Avoid binging. Prefer abstaining from PMO.

  3. I actually wrote in the hope that someone will know of what study I'm talking about. I definitely know that this method has its own name but I cant remember it

    And yes, it'd be stupid to use this for an addiction which could be fatal like alcohol or heroine

    Anyway, my theory is that it could work with PMO because the longest streaks I was having were streaks which were motivated by me feeling disgusted and simply bored from PMO after doing it for too much for a while.

    Maybe some of us must hit rock bottom before they can abandon PMO all together?
     
  4. PMO is not a substance. And considering you're not going to get thrown in jail for fap driving and killing someone the kind of bottom substance addiction involves is most likely not going to happen to you. A big difference is it becomes impossible for the alcoholic or drug addict to hide it and the reality check becomes unavoidable, but it's extremely easy to hide PMO and keep going on in everyday life.
     
  5. From my personal experiences, I would say that it probably would not work. Having tried to quit porn many times over the years, sometimes I would try the binge method as sort of a farewell to porn. The plan would be to watch as much porn and masterbate as much as possible in one day, to get it out of my system and be PMO free starting the next day. The next day I would be right back at it watching porn again, and sometimes more then I would normally have watched.

    The only thing that has worked for me was to keep a journal and be brutally honest with myself in it. I would write how I felt before PMO and after, and this helped me identify the root cause for PMO. Once I had that information, I was able to create a plan for myself in order to identify urges and be able to deal with them in a constructive way. I personally believe, that is the only way to beat an addiction, identify the root cause and then come up with a plan.

  8. My root cause for PMO? It's not really PMO, it's just the next best thing i can come up with to deal with it.

    The root cause is simply my wish to achieve "the biggest orgasm ever" and as often as I can, just like I hate eating regular food but love junk food. I'm craving anything which will make my life more "intense" and "enjoyable", and because I'm not a multibillionaire who instead of sexual release can simply eat the fanciest of food or drive sports cars, the next best thing for me is to simply PMO (and when I move out and will earn my own money, PMO with sex toys, cross dressing,...)

    So here you have it. I would not feel the need to PMO and in general sexual release, if I could instead eat only junk food everyday, while driving sports cars for example

    And why do I feel this need to "intensify" my life? Because we only have one!

  10. I tried this. It only leads to escalation. What excited you before no longer works, and suddenly you find yourself watching things that would have disgusted you before, but the feeling of disgust will never overwhelm the urges in the long run. Don't do it!

    i always do this when i have weed, i binge to a point where i throw my stash in the toilette, i feel clean and then i do it again, when i do this usually is with PMO side along, my biggest streak was 69 days, ifelt i could handle weed but no, i hold myself 4 days then i get in a huge relapse, 9 PMO in a day, but didnt last much, here i am again, must avoid weed at any cost.

    Nevertheless, im rambling, i dont think this therapy works with any substance, it may work for a short period of time, but your stupid brain will forget why you did stop and will show you the good moments, and youll end relapsing. And PMO is no a substance, so i dont think how you can get to a disgust point, so, nofap, nofap is the answer... i hope

    I have never heard of this method, nor do I see how it could work for anyone with an actual addiction. I have heard something similar to it as a way of teaching kids to not smoke, but never as a method of therapy that helps combat addiction.

    Also, as someone who's dealt with fetishes, the deeper you go into them, the worse it gets. These things always seem to work towards destroying your authentic self in order to replace it with something else or at least get you to where you think reversal is impossible. That then can lead to more despair and sometimes to suicide.

    I agree with others that it is very unlikely that this idea would work. I think it could help temporarily but the effects would be very short lived. I did go through a period where I decided I would PMO whenever I had the urge. Not "fight" and just get it over with. For me two things happened. 1. My use increased dramatically. I quickly got used to having the PMO dopamine high and wanted it every day. 2. PMO as a "forbidden fruit" went away. It lost some of its "exciting" quality. Very quickly I ran out of different videos that I had a desire to search for. Basically I was able to see that porn is really pretty boring when you watch it whenever you want. However this is not very useful because when you go back to not watching, you "forget" that porn is boring and it can seem "exciting" once again.
     
  14. My cross dressing fetish is natural (unfortunately?), ever since I literally hit puberty I started to wear my mom's knee high nylons socks and her flats when I was home alone. I just stopped because I grew too big and I accidentally ripped one of her pantyhose

    It was WAY before I started watching P, the only "P" I was watching then were women showing her nylon feet on YouTube. I mean, I didn't know what "sissy" is until like 2 years ago maybe

    Like all big things, they start off small. When I look back on my history as a child I used to be into comic book characters where the women in them were always perfect and worse next to nothing or form fitting clothing. Just becaue it wasn't playboy doesn't mean it didn't have a P aspect to it. It was content that made me focus on the parts of a person and not on the person themselves. Your YouTube videos had that aspect. Porn has that aspect in spades. A natural fetish is an oxymoron.
     
  16. Listen. I was 10. Saw a girl in my class wearing nylon pantyhose. Thought "that looks nice". Found later some of my mom's nylon knee socks. Tried them on, and I liked it. It is as natural of a fetish as it can be for me. At the same time, I wanted to watch women in pantyhose, so I searched on YouTube. Eventually, the best results came if I typed in simply "nylon feet". That's it.

    I remember when I was 5 so waaaaaay before puberty I already liked nylon pantyhoses and wanted to become a motorcyclist as I thought that they were wearing pantyhoses. I even wanted to become a pantyhose seller like owning a pantyhose shop once "I grow up".

    It is natural.

    Yea, I've actually used this strategy. Day 0 for me I jack off as many times as possible. BUT - and this is huge, I jacked off to vanilla porn. If you jack off to your fetish, which is much more arousing and spend so much more time with it (on that day), it's very easy to come up with new things to try out.

  20. Didn't you get frustrated that you only PMOed to vanilla porn? Because I would, it's like choosing to eat a salad at McDonald's instead of a BigMac. But eat 10 BigMacs in a row and you wouldn't like to eat it for the next month
