Today is actually my 14th day without PMO. The longest I've ever done since being a boy as it is just something. I 'did' for whatever reason without even thinking how much time had lapsed in between. Its just so ingrained. Anyways to celebrate two weeks I'm going to share this story...

A woman came to see Mohandas Gandhi, waiting in line for more than half a day with her son at her side in order to have an audience with him. When at last it was their turn to speak to him, the woman said, “Mahatma, please. Tell my son he must stop eating sugar. It is ruining his health, his teeth, it affects his mood. Every time he has it, I see the change in him and there is nothing I can do to stop him from eating it, and then eating more. He’s a good boy, but when it comes to sugar, he becomes a liar and a thief and a cheat and I’m afraid it will ruin his life. Please, Gandhi, tell him to stop.”

Gandhi looked at the boy for the longest time as he cowered there, trying to hide in his mother’s sari. Finally, Gandhi broke the silence and said. “Come back to me in two weeks time.”

Two weeks later the woman returned with her child and once again waited in line for hours before finally it was again their turn to see the Master. “Mahatma,” said the mother. “We have returned. We came to you for help with this boy and eating sugar and you asked us to come back after two weeks.”

“Yes, of course I remember,” said the Gandhi, “Come here, child.” He motioned the boy forward.

The boy, at the urging and prodding of his mother, disentangled himself from her sari and stepped up to the Mahatma who reached out, putting his hands on the boy’s shoulders and pulling him in close. He looked the boy squarely in the eye and said, firmly, “Don’t eat sugar,” then released him.

“That’s it?” said the mother. “That’s all you’re going to say?” She was flabbergasted. “Why didn’t you just tell him that two weeks ago?”

“Because,” replied Gandhi, “Two weeks ago I was still eating sugar myself.”

Time for a little chat with my two sons me thinks!!

Hey great story, i liked it, this change out of PMO addiction is very important, is like you feel like a different person after a while, a little different, i dont know.

on topic i dont believe you can change people, i think people can be inspired by examples and sincere stories that motivates them to change themselves for the better, moving a great percentage of people out of PMO will definetly have a positive result for the world in the long run, besides every day young kids come into this site, which is incredible tbh.

Well I had the (child friendly!) chat with the boys! 10 year old thought it was absolutely hilarious (did I start too young?!?!?) but 17 year old was slightly embarrassed but intrigued (I could tell) Anyways he came up to me this morning and was telling me he'd been looking into the whole NoFap thing and he's the kind of lad who will go and talk to his mates at college. Every little bit counts!!

Well, in a slightly surreal but strangely touching turn of events my 17 year old son recommended the following video to me today...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxl3XRmvrPk&feature=youtube_gdata_player

    Cool!!

    You know Einstein once said...

"The pioneers of a warless future are the youth of today who refuse military service"

    Because as Gandhi once said...

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"

And just to paraphrase Einstein I'm going to say...

"The pioneers of a fapless future are the youth of today who refuse to fap...!!"

And of course I'm going to paraphrase Gandhi with, you guessed it...

"A fap for a fap makes the whole world blind...!!!"

But we already know that, which is why were all here!! :D

(Somebody please tell me this no-fapping thing isn't sending me doo-lally!?!?):p

Love the story and I think I'll start to open the conversation for my son this weekend.

wondering, did you open your history and despair up too or was the conversation more about the third person who could struggle with this??

@ Peaceful Warrior, thanks for posting this. It is interesting to me to go back to a time when Mark was a newbie. He is not a newbie anymore. He is here teaching us how to get clean. In 8 days he will be six months clean. I do not believe he ever felt despair in quitting. I know I did, but I have never seen that sentiment in his posts. Rather, he has always seen quitting as a way of bettering his life, and has encouraged us all to better our lives likewise. Mark's example is one we all need to follow. If you want a better world, be a better person.

Apologies for the ancient bump :) Mark had linked this in another post and the question was more relevant here than there...

And agreed, Mark has a lot of wisdom to share and I'm thankful for it :)

Thank you for the very kind words chaps, they are greatly appreciated:eek:

When I discussed this with my son I was pretty up front and he did his own research from there. This kind of stuff is so misunderstood and it makes me laugh that people would judge people for being here whilst being both dishonest with themselves and blissfully (or not so) unaware of themselves, their habits, and the consequences their habits have on both themselves and others (which is a massive picture the more you peel the layers back!) Maybe I've been too open with some people about all this (and porn in general which was always a 'guilty' pleasure I am particularly glad to be shut of!) but I just don't care to be honest because quite frankly I'm sick of all the bullshit and hypocrisy in the world so if people don't like it or get it (or find the truth 'embarrassing') that says everything about them and nothing about me so good luck to em(or fuck em depending on who it is;))

Having said that I fully appreciate that this is a very sensitive subject (mind you the 'truth' is an increasingly sensitive subject these days!) so I guess we have to deal with these issues the best we know how. Just come from a place of love rather than fear and even though that has never been the easy option in this global 'kindergarten' take comfort in the quotes below...

I don't even know if this is relevant but I was listening to this (for the upteenth time) today and feel strangely compelled to share it...
