New no gap and been diagnosed with adhd and take adderall. Lately even with the adderall I've had this fog and just feel like I'm not 100 percent with it. My meds have always helped me prior to a few months ago. I realized I had a problem masturbating too much sometimes and have PROB done it daily for the past 3 years.with a max of 4 days off, which was very rare to make it to that. Been reading and wonder if masturbating is the reason my brains out of wack. I have less confidence and anxiety that has been getting worse lately as well, I've had. a bad.attitude and been impulsive which my adderall is supposed to help. I start PA school this fall and need to be at the top of my game and I hope this helps!

On day two today... Already had some urges and thoughts. But also notice a bit of a difference as well. Adderall already messes with my brain chemistry, I know, and the last I need is too much falling fucking me up! Hope this works and would like to here some success stories for motivation!!! Wish me luck!

Adderall is a known mood destabilizer. If it's the only thing that gets your ADHD under control, then you may be taking it with good reason, but nevertheless the downside is that it makes it more difficult to maintain a balanced emotional state. The emotional unbalance puts you at risk for fapping too much, among other things. Addictive tendencies in general can be made worse. Abusers know the "aphrodisiac" properties of Adderall and use it to enhance sex. Naturally, the urge to masturbate is also increased. So you have a perfect storm there. If you want to be at the top of your game, consider talking with your doctor about switching to a different class of drugs, or supplementing with an anti-depressant.

I have the same problem as the thread starter. It seems like i cant function on top without Ritalin but the medication also give me these addiction tendencies towards fapping and edging for hours. How could an anti-depressant help with this?

I'm not 100% clear on why, but I do know that antidepressants can help with addictive tendencies and problematic impulse control, much like they can also mysteriously help with some chronic pain conditions. Naturally you would have to talk about this with your doctor. They don't have the same effect in everyone.

An incomplete explanation: Different systems of the body work in concert with each other.

The SSRI's (Prozac, Zoloft, etc.) target primarily seratonin, which affects response to dopamine and tends to "even out" highs and lows. Reduce the power of the dopamine rush, reduce the urges. For some people they're lifesavers. For others, complaints include feeling like a zombie and, of course, reduced libido. Low dose SSRI's are often useful in treating sex addiction.

Other types of antidepressants, like the SNRI's (Wellbutrin, Effexor, etc.) target dopamine, norepinephrine and seratonin together, to varying degrees. Dopamine being the main culprit in addiction, it makes sense that tweaking it in a controlled way could help someone who has addictive tendencies. Again, results vary. The SNRI's are nice because they can boost energy and they don't kill the libido. The SNRI's are a go-to treatment option for ADHD. They have been known to drastically improve self-control. Perhaps they're not used as often as they could be because people hesitate to give antidepressants to children (whereas amphetamines are okay... lol).

In any case, it's just a suggestion. My feeling is, none of these drugs will cause permanent damage if you take them a for a while and stop, so if what you're doing now isn't working, you might as well try something different and see what happens, under medical guidance of course.

FinallyHappy97! That is awesome to hear your success!

I live with bipolar II, and I don't see it as a disorder at all. Some of the symptoms manifest as ADHD from time to time. I also don't think ADHD is a problem. Everything is relative. And through the lenses of our society, certain things get labeled as a "disorder."

That said, I am careful when doing things that affect my psyche. Adderall does send you out of a natural rhythm as some people have mentioned. But it has the ability to be a powerful tool. Lots of things do. Even alcohol can be a valuable tool in the right circumstances.

The most effective tools for any type of "imbalance" are consistently: proper nutrition, plenty of exercise, and quality sleep. After that, meditation (NOT medication) is the next most important. If you focus on those 4 elements (5 including nofap) you will likely see a drastic improvement in your quality of life.

A side benefit to meditation is that it allows you to listen to your body and mind. So then rather than taking medications from doctors because "they should know" you will become an expert at yourself, and have a deeper understanding of what works for you in your ever changing flow of life.

Just noticing your urges on day 2 is a great practice in mindfulness meditation. I would encourage you to set a clearly defined goal for yourself, and create a counter in your signature. Come back regularly. You've got this!
