I started earlier this year, relapsed a few times, I'm fully aware of rationalizing to PMO now and all the little tricks which the brain plays.

Anyway, I'm on day 8 atm, feeling somewhat good already and never got any urges beyond the second day, i feel I can do this quite well for a very very long time.

Honest to god, I accidentally came across a triggering story on IG, fairly mild, but I could feel my head lighting up (without any other physical sensations). I then went on this person's profile for a few seconds but closed it all off before anything could happen. I feel abit jaded now, I don't know if this is due to a rush or whether i'm tired from thinking about whether it counts as a failure.

It was an IG story so literally just a few seconds long. I know: remove IG etc.

The question I want to put out there is whether this counts as a failure and whether the dopamine (if it was indeed a rush) was all expended during these few seconds.

edit: This happened about 3 hours ago, I don't feel the need to act on it any further (because I've learned how the brain tries to rationalize). But I do feel a bit tired and anxious wondering whether this is a failure.

update: about 5 hours later and I have zero urge to act on it. I don't have that empty feeling you get with a relapse but I don't feel happy about what happened either. Would this mean that I managed to escape a possible relapse?

  2. I think there's not any problem.

If you find yourself in another situation like this, go read or study something, you will forget these things quickly and won't feel the guilty.

  3. It's a slip up but not a relapse. If anything I have found that such incidents actually strengthen a streak if you overcome them as you build willpower and increase motivation to stay as clean as possible.
