I really have this question in my mind:
Suppose you went for NoFap journey and you relapsed at day 10(with P), the next time you started again and achieved a 12 day streak(with P), consequently next time for a new star, ofcourse, you ended up at day 15(with P).
You went in a manner like this; 10, 12, 15.....and so on increasing your streak at each consecutive loop.
Would that help in desaturating your Porn addiction?
Or giving a direct shot of 90 days or more will cure it properly?

Porn is a behaviour, so it only exists as an addiction and not a dependency.

As my non-medically certified self understands it, substance addicts are weaned off substances gradually mainly due to the physical dependency they have on it; that is to say the effect it has on the body due to it affecting homeostasis (the balance of hormones in the body). The addiction is a separate entity, while dependency exists in the body, addiction exists in the brain. Every time you use your drug of choice (or PMO) you reinforce the neurons associated with the behaviour and it becomes harder to quit next time. So the best course of action to quit an addiction is to go cold turkey. Don't go 10 days, then 12, then 15. Quit immediately, forever.

Again, not a doctor, and if anyone wants to challenge me on what I've just said I would be glad to hear you out.

But using that drug after a long while, say 100 days, is not supposed to bring the brain back exactly like when it was 100 days ago!

Definitely, once you get to extremely long streaks the damage you're going to be doing is minimal, but why prolong the time it takes to get to 100 days? And why risk it in the first place? There's a phenomena called the chaser effect where an addict who has just used after a streak of abstinence is far more likely to use again immediately after. If you have a "controlled" relapse after 10 days, you're going to want to use again. What's more, you have an excuse to relapse on day 7 or 8 or 9 because you're "going to relapse in a few days anyway". You're going to make it far harder for yourself to stay sober when you're supposed to because the "cheat days" mean you aren't fully comitted in the first place.

Even if you had the willpower to keep to your schedule perfectly, you're going to be delaying the process a lot. It takes a decent amount of time after a relapse for the chemicals that help rewire your brain to crave porn to die down. According to (admittedly not very scholarly) sources it takes about 42 days of complete abstinence for the brain changes allowing porn pathways to degrade to even begin. If you're going in 3 day increments, that's going to be hundreds of days before you even start to see measurable results.

Ultimately though, it's your life. You can do what you see fit.

  5. I think the less porn you consume, the better. So if you're watching it every 15 days instead of every 2 days, that's better. But even better than that would be watching it every 50 days, or 100 days, or not at all.

I'd recall that there was a challenge with a similar theme here. Like you weren't expected to relapse shortly after making a new record or anything, but whenever you did, you were expected to take it as your goal to have a streak that was at least one day longer than the last one. I think it's a great idea in the sense that this kind of approach propably helps some people to achieve their goals easier by having a lot of smaller goals in between. Go for it of you feel like you can keep it up. But if you can't it might be better to take a different approach.
