5 Things Girls Don't Seem to Understand About 'Nice Guys'

Orienting oneself toward JOY is a choice.

Happiness is a transient condition. It isn't always appropriate in the moment. If your dog died today, go ahead and be sad today.
Happiness isn't gained by seeking it directly, obsessively. To find it, you have to live right, look outward, and let it sneak up on you.
There may be years when the best one can do is keep working, do no harm while suffering, and lay the foundations for a better tomorrow.

Pasting on a smile through thick and thin is bullcrap. Sometimes you have to go home and lick your wounds. Sometimes you have to show that you were hurt, so that others can take your feelings into consideration, and maybe even help you out. Sometimes everyone is unhappy about a turn of events, and that guy who's just so chipper all the time is an irritant. What can be gained by putting on a mask? Fake it until you make it? If you grin through the very trials of Job, what then? Either that sunny face will become disconnected from your heart, or by practice you'll become deranged in your very soul.
