Interestingly, I like to think of it in reverse. As an addict, I was a lost and wandering soul over a vast waste land. Now, I am a slave to freedom, unlimited potential, life, love, and God. Who is it, after all, that never complains about being tied or bound or occupied by another? - the answer: lovers. Lovers are always together, holding hands, never wanting to be a part. If they could, they might even want to be hand-cuffed together. It is that kind of slavery that I am talking about. When we make ourselves slaves of something heinous, material, and finite, then we perhaps will suffer from such a shallow lifestyle, but when we make ourselves subservient to what is infinite, then we are really free for the first time.
