So we're addicted to porn. Are we weird or is this now the new norm? Is there anyone out there who is comfortable talking to people about their struggle with porn?

No we are not weird. A lot of the time people turn to something to fill in blanks from their lives. Whether there's an underlying problem causing you to use it out of comfort, such as depression, loneliness... so on, for those moments that you're using Porn it makes you feel good and forget about everything else for a short while. Just like any addict, some people turn to alcohol, cocaine, weed, heroin... whatever it is, a lot of the times people addicted to something are using that particular thing because something is missing from their lives. We just happen to use porn.

I'm not saying everyone here uses Porn because something is missing in their lives, but in a lot of cases it's somewhat true.

You are not weird for using Porn, no one is.

  3. I would consider myself weird for watching porn no matter how much society accepts and normalizes it. I do consider it weird behaviour and I say this because we should never accept the behaviour of being locked away, in a dark little room, hours on end, watching videos of people having sex or nudes of women who are strangers (even if they weren't strangers it would be weird) as normal because it's not normal. It is the new normal however and I for one am sure not going to follow this toxic societal trend. I'm not attacking porn addicts but I'm just stating my opinion in that I believe that the behaviour of watching porn in and of itself is abnormal.

  4. It doesn't really make a difference. We have a bad habit that adds no value to our lives and were working to end it. Thats all that matters Comparing yourself to other people is only going to make you feel weird and give you a complex.

  5. I see your point... My post looks at it from a different perspective but I understand and respect your point nonetheless.

If you equate weird with being sick, than yes, I think we're weird. Because in truth, there's nothing normal, healthy, about using porn. It becomes weird, sick, when we think it is.

I've never read that scripture in light of porn addiction. Interesting.

I rather agree with this. But, maybe what i was really asking is "does PMO addiction leave an indelible mark?"

I have to believe it is not indelible. There are very few things that ARE truly indelible - marriage, the priesthood. Things given to us by God. That is, fortunately, one of the marks of God - He truly creates while the other thing cannot. It can only destroy. And as PM is from the other thing, it cannot "create" an indelible mark. It can only destroy that connection we have with God.
I know i'm beginning to write in poetic and religious terms, but I had to put some light on such a dark consideration.

We are not weird, well we are to most of the world as we "trying to quit pmo" and they say "why would anyone is their right state of mind would try to quit pmo?" but trust me even the thought of you,me and everyone here that pmo is bad and we need to defeat it is what makes us better than those who support it,they will not know what fucking hell this is untill they go themselves in it and untill then we will be made fun of/

Addiction, in its myriad forms, is the new normal. A consumer society wants a populace addicted to consumption... whatever it is.

  14. It did destroy my connection with God and engaging in PMO destroyed my innocence.

I hear you. It's true in manifold ways for me as well. However, take heart, we were never VERY innocent to begin with.

    No.
We are trying to overcome a terribly addictive behavior.

Think of all the people who are porn addicts but don't know it and wonder why there lives are so miserable. At least we are fortunate enough to recognize what's wrong in our lives and make a change.

Unlike many Modern Thinkers (who tend to believe babies are born innocent, and good, full of love) Christian theology teaches that we're born with "original sin". We are born GUILTY, ie, not innocent.
