Never experienced with other drugs so I can't tell if PMO addiction is more harmful than them

Kicking the porn habit is the easiest compared to other addictions like cigarettes, alcohol and the very worst, gambling.

You say that based on? Your personal experience?

Everybody is different, it makes sense it is different for each person. This link from YBOP talks about withdrawal symptoms from porn, and some of them are quite severe.

This comment lists crazy withdrawal symptoms.

This guy does a pretty good job of explaining how he believes there may be two different types of porn addicts. It makes sense. (It's from the same link, above.)

"This guy believes there are two type of porn addicts with different trajectories

Finally, and this is something personal, I have discovered that there may be two kind of addicts. There is the normal chap who got into porn out of curiosity and then got hooked on. For them getting back to normal may take less time. When I began reading their stories it was very frustrating to me that in just two weeks they were making real progress. It has taken me an ordeal, a suicidal-feeling period and a full blown depression to slowly reach the other side. The other kind of addict (and I would label myself in this category) is the one who got issues in the first place and didn't have a normal emotional environment to begin with and began "self-medicating" their growing anxiety with porn. For us it is harder to get back to "normal" because we are not getting back, we are DISCOVERING IT for the first time in our lifes! So, in our journey it is not only porn and orgasms that we must quit, they are not the cause but the consequence of deeper conflicts that we must work on. But if we keep on masturbating and orgasming we never get rid of our anxiety and we never get the tools to start living our emotions in a new and healthy way.

So, my advice to the people out there is don't compare your progress to anybody else's and don't check your progress on a daily basis not even on a weekly basis. It may take months. Don't think that quitting porn is going to be the single magic bullet that is going to solve all your problems, there may be more in store than what you initially thought. Stay away from masturbation, even if it is only to sensation, it is one more trick of the brain to lower your defenses and get you back to porn. And, finally, the thing which has helped me the most has been meeting new nice people and the love of my students. Love is not only in a relationship so rely on your friends, family and the people who love you because love is everywhere, not just in one person."

Think about this for a minute. Yes addiction to porn is bad. Yet relative to an addiction to drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and gambling, I would take porn addiction anytime. Porn addiction does not wreck your body and KILL you like drugs, alcohol and cigarettes. If you think the psychological damage is bad from porn wait until you have met someone with a gambling addiction.

There have been times I've wished I had a different addiction. I feel like quitting smoking or drugs would be easier, because all you have to do is not go buy drugs /cigs. (I make it sound so easy. Other people probably think "well why don't pörn addicts just not watch porn!"). Nowadays, it only takes us a couple of clicks to PMO. Plus, if you smoke, it's easier for other people to tell, but if you're a PMO addict, you can often get away with it in secret.

    @fupornwife,

Hmmmmm.... I guess I am much more stronger and much more resilient than many of you folks out there.

As the wise words of Tyler Durden, "I am free in all the ways you are not."

I guess with smoking addiction we can tell a friend of it and ask for help. Like a real life friend. But porn addiction is not easy to talk about. Mostly because the other person might end up laughing saying, 'oh we all watch porn and it's all right.'

Plus it's not easy for a guy to tell to his friend that he's having porn induced erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation or hocd tendencies that may be due to porn addiction.

it's easier to ask a friend that one needs help from gambling or alcohol or smoking addiction.

This opinion varies from person to person. Personally I think that well, Porn is free nowadays. And easily accessible. Drugs, Tobacco, and Gambling are all addictions, but they are costly. Pornography is free nowadays and just takes a quick internet search (unless you decide to go to a shop). Also, there hasn't been things designed specifically for porn addicts that are recovering (unlike smoking which has its recovering addicts deal with patches). But it also has to do with the will of the person. Someone with a strong will may be able to quiet easily than others. I've been trying to persuade my mother to quit smoking for years (and recently I've been thinking she's addicted to gambling) but she says that she can't and she wishes she hadn't started. However for me I think that I could quit Smoking on the same level I'm quiting PMO: Slow but with progress. However people like my mother have just 'given up' and have never made an attempt. In this case the severity of an addiction has more to do with the person than with the actual object in question.

I am of the second category like you. I was a gloomy kid with aloof elder siblings and over worked parents.. There were intense family conflicts and my mom used to cry all the time... I used to gap since childhood.. Early teens ..i knew not what it was.. But it was a quick fix for my gloomy feelings..i was also sexually abused by a elder girl when I was 14 yrs old.. my parents told me that it was a bad habit and it was dirty.. I used to feel shame after m and it was forming a pattern in me..in my My early adult life I had lot of guilt and used to think of myself as a over sexed monster.. A pervert.. ( some of my cousins and even my siblings used to call me a prevert) . I went to college and then it read about childhood masturbation..it happens in kids with bisexual maturity and is a sign of severe mental stress.. I never got a good diagnosis but I think it is one of the variants of borderline personality.. My pm habit breaks its grip on me if I do some journalling and diffuse toxic reactions by writing them out and rationalising.. My pm and pleasure also follow a pattern.. Mostly I am feeling very very sad when I fap for the first time... Coz it is my sadness that makes me seek it ..but the imagery kindles my sexual feelings and I will chase the first fap with second or third when it will be like normal people with pleasurable feelings..the addiction nonetheless is very very real and the reason it is difficult to quit is because of ease of habit and abundance of porn.. Porn subs..

I have an extension on my web browser (I use Chrome) and it's called Anti-Porn Pro. It just blocks every website with adult content. It doesn't work on Tumblr (and that shit is full of P) but it helped me a lot. Everytime I feel the urge to watch porn, it blocks me and drops my craving.
Being all day in a computer makes you need some little aid with your journey.
    I hope my advice helps.

Porn addiction has the same fundamental brain changes as all other addictions, and yes it is worse than cocaine so porn is some hard stuff if you think about it.

G, the porn addiction seems lesser, but its so much more sneaky. You get the addiction before you know it.. I was talking to the wife tonight, she is an ex-smoker, and we can see the similarities...smke and porn...both addictions are creating a quick turn around...20 mins between smokes, and porn every day or more..

there is an invisible force driving you the the parking lot of that convenience store (smokes or booze), or your rubber arm getting dragged to the front porch of that drug dealer...its not as easy as just don't buy it..trust me...and the worst part is that once you procured it, you already gort a dopamine hit, even before you consume it...

I have to disagree with you there. I was addicted to nicotine and am currently 2 years nicotine free. It wasn't easy at all, but from my experience, it was a walk in the park compared to quitting P.

Don't know how old many of you folks are and I am going to say this. If you think this PMO is tough there are things much more tougher you will deal and face in life. There are going to be some "hardships", challenges, and curve balls thrown your way where willpower, determination, and discipline are not going to be enough. Beating this requires mainly you and only you. If you can't get a handle on that you have already lost even before you even begin to fight.

Same here. I have used cocaine a lot in the past, never really developed an addiction. I smoked weed for years, and when forced to quit due to probation, It was surprisingly easy. I used to drink a massive amount in High School and College, when i got out, it was extremely easy to stop.

Porn on the other hand, has been the one thing that I have NEVER been able to quit since i started

and its even more difficult to stop because there are videos and pictures of pretty girls all around us. billboards, commercials, posters, etc.
