I got a email saying I need to pay or they are going to send video of someone in my household mastubating to Adult content.

I am torn whether it is real or not- Any computer Guru's on here can help me? The really odd thing was they told me to get on nofap and read about PMO and how stopping could benefit me.

My Camera on my computer sucks so i know no video there but could they really have hacked my router and they phones connected to our Wifi?

Nope, total fake! My husband got one of those.

The reason he knew it was a fake is because they said, "I recorded you through the cameras on your phone and computer masturbating, and I'm going to send it to your email contact list."

The problem was, Jay hadn't masturbated in years at that point, PLUS neither his phone or his computer had a camera.

When we put that together, we realized it must be a scam. An internet search confirmed it was a scam that had been going around for years. Hope that helps.

(Funny thing: my husband works with porn addicts, and a couple weeks later, a former client of his called saying he had received that same scam email, but also said it was so nice to know the scammers couldn't have anything recent on him because he'd been staying sober. So he was calling my husband to thank him : )

Technically speaking, yeah it’s possible to do something like that.

Is the email you got real? Absolutely not. Anybody with the capability of doing something like this wouldn’t have bothered to contact you and attempt to bribe you.

The only people that do that are...you guessed it...SCAMMERS.

I’m gonna be honest, if it were me I would’ve totally replied and been like oh no what do I need to do next? Just to mess with their head. Kind of like those videos online of people getting back at those tech support scammers. :emoji_stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

  6. I received a similar email once. After sometime I googled the message content and I found it is common and just a spam. So how is it done ? As I understood it is done by email leaks that happen from time to time. I got a lot of spams(not related to this) to that email and login attempts so eventually decided to delete it

  7. This is fake. There are some older threads on this site about this.

Over a year ago I received more than one of these scam emails. In one the person even showed me that he had a password that I had used but it was a very old one that I hadn’t used in a long time. I did some research and saw it’s a scam and did nothing. Over a year now and nothing has happened to me.

  9. Fake as fcuk! They also demand you to send them Bitcoins! And SomeOrdinaryGamers did a video on them where he tracked their bitcoin wallet and surprisingly found a huge money trail proving that this kind of scam is highly effective.

Darknet Diaries had a fantastic episode on this kind of thing. The guy who did it is now in prison serving a six-year sentence. Quite honestly, I think people like him are despicable and I wish he had a longer sentence, but at least his life is over now, he was an intellectual guy who could have had a top job in an IT firm but he chose a life of crime instead. You can listen to the episode here or you can read the news story about him here. I think the episode of Darnet Diaries is really good because it really gets into the kind brilliant bastard he actually was.

Fake! I got one a few months ago. At first I thought it was real, because it mentioned webcam girls and a woman from a dating site, both of which my soon to be ex, does(he’s marrying the one from dating site). Then I laughed my ass off wishing it was real, hoping they WOULD release whatever they had. Too bad I can’t get my justice that way! Would serve him right.

Yes, received this more than once actually. Fake, don't worry. Having said that - don't fap in front of your webcam in front of strangers. It's risky behaviour! Let this be a lesson to you!
Yes, it speaks volumes about how many people out there have camgirl addictions that they can make money by sending an email round like this at random.
