On Cold Showers

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by thatsingleindividual#K-13, Mar 30, 2019.

  1. I have a question, a lot of people on here bring this up at times: What's the deal with Cold Showers? What makes them such a popular topic or recommendation?
I have taken cold showers before and I have to say, though they suck in the beginning due to nerve tension, they feel pretty good, especially once you get out. Your nerves were once tense but then they slacken, and you feel warm in a funny way when you step out.
Nevertheless, why are "cold showers" such a big thing on here, as if people recommend that taking cold showers habitually helps with one's conflict with masturbation or pornography?
    What's the science behind this?

  2. I think it's just a shock to the system that builds self-discipline. No idea about science but it feels good.

Overrated if you ask me. Lots of articles about supposed benefits online but very little seems backed up by research. Yes, it is a way to immediately and dramatically step out of your comfort zone, but I'd rather get out of that by running an extra 2km, which has clear benefits as opposed to the mental strength to tolerate freezing your ass of for 2 mins...

  5. As I've said, I've taken cold showers before and I believe they work to a certain extent when it comes to getting out of your comfort zone and they do feel good, as long as they are not just deep-freezing ice cold.
I like it cold with it bordering near the lukewarm mark.

  6. i take them daily on the coldest setting, they do a number of things, the benefits i noticed greatly are.
    1. better skin, i have very harsh dry skin, cold showers make my skin so much better.

    2. better hair and nails, my whole body looks healthier and smoother

    3. builds cold resistance, when i was at a basketball game it was about 20 degrees out, i had shorts and a tshirt on and was not cold at all, everyone else had jackets on and were shivering like they were in the arctic.

    4. builds discipline, when i take cold showers all my hesitation goes away, all that laziness goes away, i had to clean my kitchen yesterday and i did not want to, i took a cold shower and i went right to the kitchen afterwords and cleaned it.

    5. makes you feel good, i dont know why but something about cold showers just make me happy, my mood is instantly boosted when i am in it and when i get out.

    6. wakes you up, i mean how could it not?

    7. immune system, i have not gotten sick once since i started, it does wonders for your health, infact i am going to to go take one right now!!!.

Is holding the head under cold water in the sink effective, too? If I'm out of the house and feel an arising urge, I could go to a public toilet.

  8. eh maybe a little but not nearly as good as a cold shower.

  9. So when it comes to taking a cold shower, BravelyKegger, I assume then the enjoyable aspects of the shower are after you get out of the shower?
I took them once and they take to getting used to but I'll agree with you they do feel great.
How long did it take to you getting used to them at first? I know it probably does not take that long but I'm just curious, especially if you have it set at extremely cold?
    And not a sniffle, eh.
