https://www.scribd.com/document/399182602/Green-New-Deal-FAQ#from_embed Holy... I’ve heard jokes about this and about how dumb the AOC chick’s ideas are, but I didn’t know this was FOR REAL. Lmao. Who’s paying for all this? Why pay people unwilling to work? Wow. Don’t get me wrong, I’m an environmentalist, but this sounds much more about government control. Is Green the new Red? It seems like you Americans elect the stupidest people to represent you.
Looked through that FAQ you posted - sounds pretty good to me. - clean and renewable energy - job creation and training - economic security for people - clean air and water - investment in infrastructure Who wouldnt want that?
How will it be accomplished in 10 years? How will eliminating air travel help people go overseas? Surely they can’t build train tracks in the ocean. How will they force homeowners to change their house infrastructure? Surely this wouldn’t benefit the poor. How will they get people to change their car’s form of fuel? Surely this wouldn’t benefit the poor. Why depend on the government for food when they clearly stated they wanted to bank beef and other food? Most importantly, how are you gonna pay for it, when you can’t even pay off a $22 trillion debt and over $50 trillion in unfunded obligations/social security/etc? The FAQ avoids that question by projecting into projects that don’t even compare to this price tag. How will we pay for a guaranteed job and job training? Taxing the private sector to oblivion and destroying it? Taxing the rich to the point where they either leave (and force the middle/lower classes, who cannot afford to leave, to fund everything, which then leads to them being even more poor) or they loophole their money (also see above)? A government-owned corporation that plunders people’s wealth? Just... how? Nobody’s saying green energy is bad; we’re saying this plan is nowhere rooted in reality. This is nothing but communism, as mentioned above. They couldn’t care less about the environment; they just want control. Why would you give control of your house, your car, your food, etc. to the government? With the government in control of your life, this is the basic definition of tyranny.
Maybe it can't but does that mean you shouldn't try? Nothing in the FAQ mentions air travel, I have read it wants to invest in high speed rail which would be a cleaner alternative to domestic air travel. I'm not sure how or if they will 'force' them to, but better insulated homes would need less heating/air conditioning as they'd be more efficient, thus saving money This is an issue that needs to be tackled with or without the green new deal. The switch to electric powered cars is beginning, and of course at the beginning new cars will be unaffordable to the poor, but over time these new electric cars will be sold on and become more affordable. And with cleaner cheaper energy they will be cheaper to run thus benefitting the poor. I'm not too familiar with how this will work, but I believe there is already a big dependence on government aid (food stamps etc) Money can be found to bail out banks, to wage wars, to give tax cuts to the rich - if there is a willingness to try make it happen then the resources can be found, maybe it make take some sacrifices but the result would be worth it. I'm not saying this is foolproof, or guaranteed to work, but i fail to see how they want to control your house or car, they want to improve your house, to get you a better cleaner car.
“Trying” is quite different from “forcing,” which this plan aims to do. “We set a goal to get to net-zero, rather than zero emissions, in 10 years because we aren’t sure that we’ll be able to fully get rid of farting cows and airplanes that fast, but we think we can ramp up renewable manufacturing and power production, retrofit every building in America, build the smart grid, overhaul transportation and agriculture, plant lots of trees and restore our ecosystem to get to net-zero.” Sounds like she wants to get rid of airplanes. Why else is she putting them in the same sentence and category as farting cows? They’re not pledging efficiency. They’re pledging a full revamping of the FUEL the homeowners use. It’s a much, much more sophisticated and costly than simply making a house more energy efficient, and anyone dealing with energy can tell you that. Electric cars are weak at their current state. You can’t expect a lorry or a ute to run on a mere battery and have it be economically feasible. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.fo...f-the-electric-or-hydrogen-fuel-cell-sem.aspx Those are for low-income, poor people, and they can escape food stamps once they make enough money. But in this case, they’re flirting with the idea of banning beef and other meats from ALL citizens, thus controlling food for everyone. I don’t agree with the bank bailout and I think banks should be broken down, but one fundamental difference: the banks are a huge sector of the economy; don’t fund them and you may have a crash, as Iceland found out a decade ago. But in this case, this would be money going AGAINST another huge sector (energy) rather than putting money FOR a sector. “Invest” that amount of money into this, and it probably wouldn’t end well. Even if all wars ended, the resulting money still wouldn’t be enough to cover the estimated cost of shutting down an entire sector, revamping everyone’s homes and interfering with the food supply. Tax cuts for the rich doesn’t cause budget problems. Overspending does. Also, tax rates are much different than tax revenue. Tax the rich too high and your tax revenue actually falls. I’m glad we found an area of agreement on one thing. This is a disaster waiting to happen.
What's it to you? You don't live in America. Why not start a thread about the politics in your own country?
It's hilarious that most people posting on this thread are in Australasia or Europe. I guess you all find the politics of the United States amusing.
Personally I’d like to see some initiatives like this in my own country. In addition the policies being put forward are to benefit the whole world in terms of addressing climate change. Fair enough as I am not American the implementation of said policies might not affect me personally, but the proposed positive results would be of benefit to everyone. My opinion on it may not have and weight in affecting wether or not the US decides to take this route, but it doesn’t mean we can’t discuss it’s pros and cons
But why can't you make a post your own politicians? I don't think you've said anything about Jacinda Ardern on here. I've yet to see one American on here (apart from a certain Trump supporter) say anything about the politics of other countries. I didn't know what green new deal was and I assumed this thread was about something going on in NZ and I was shocked it wasn't.
But how? It seems to me this has nothing to do with us. Why are non-Americans posting in this? Is it because we all want to marry Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?
Why does it bother you so much? The USA is a very central country in the world and people all over have an interest in it not destroying itself from sheer stupidity. I suppose it's also because first and foremost, this is an American site.
You say "our" business, but you are nobody important. Nobody important whines on forums all day. Reality bites, friend. You people don't seem to understand how business works. Here is what is going on: The people who created that Green New Deal are fully aware that their terms are asinine. That is the point. If this deal goes into play, they will have succeeded if they achieve, say, 30% of their goals. This works just like any sale. Always ask for more than you actually want.
Our politicians tend to be more sane in the head (until they aren’t); Ardern’s even my favourite “socialist” because at least she doesn’t try to outright push for more illegal immigration to bust the system and have the Chinese and Indians own everything without citizenship here, unlike what the so-called “Right” Nats were doing. Of course no offense to the Chinese or Indians, it’s all respect from me on an individual basis and I won’t like or hate people more because of where they’re from, but I personally don’t believe any non-citizens should be buying land here and that goes for any race. Anyway, even then, we don’t have as much power throughout the world like the US does, which is one reason why we’re obsessed with the US, China and others. But to be fair, here’s a deal: next time something interesting or strange happens here, I’ll post about it.
