Unfortunately the only two things that I can say I ever really like doing is PMO or drinking alcohol. I do enjoy playing snooker as well, but I don't enjoy it as much as PMO or alcohol. I go out long walks as well. I wouldn't say I really enjoy that though, but just do it anyway. Basically I have been on sickness benefit for years due to mental health problems, so I don't work. I went to voluntary work for a wee while which was gardening work and I have to say I hated it, I didn't enjoy it at all and just wanted to go home the entire time I was there. I tried jogging/running and hated that. I tried the gym and hated that. I like swimming but unfortunately the chlorine in the water heavily goes for my skin, and I am left was burning itchy skin for a week later. So I don't go swimming because of this. I used to skate a few years ago, but my friend who used to drive us to all the parks stopped skating and it kind of made me stop as well, as it was extremely difficult to get to any the skate parks. I am just extremely bored and unfortunately don't really enjoy doing much. But I always enjoy PMO or drinking alcohol. But I feel like I am going to need to find something to take up my days. What do you guys do?
You do. Otherwise, there's a high chance of relapse. Have you tried taking walks or hiking in nature? You can also try reading, writing, meditating, listening to music, learning an instrument, making art. Good luck!
The gym has always been my hobby I love it. You also have to keep in mind because your so use to PMO and drinking your dopamine response is only really going to go off when you are drinking and PMO because that's what your brain is wired to do. Your battling the fight agents your brain and the damage that has been done due to your PMO and drinking habits. So ya of course you wont find anything else fun your brain is not wired like that. It will find any excuse for you to go back and PMO its not an easy battle but I believe in you. Even if you dont believe in yourself at the moment. This is a war with your mind you have trained it to only like these things witch means you can re write it. But you have to be willing to do so.
I can't say I have a specific hobby. I cook my own meals and I listen to philosophy lectures while doing so, especially since once I get the gist of a concept I feel like I'm smart - for a minute. I sometime take very long baths, tending to my physical body, just before bed, which helps me with sleep. I spend a lot of time in solitude, without interruptions - whenever I go to work, this particular habit goes away, which is super sad. I also try to read a lot of books that expand my knowledge. I take very long walks during which, for example, I'm trying to sort out my finances, or to figure out behaviours that are detrimental, I plan a business in my head, or for that matter anything that would help increase my quality of life. I use this time to be as a friend to myself, caring and helpful. Sometimes I do start arguing with myself, replying to my own stupid remarks, but please don't tell that to my therapist yet. What I'd suggest is to embrace the boredom. I think experiencing the feeling of boredom for 1 hour can be such a relief, in the sense that you'll notice it's not that bad. We're just afraid of it, of not being challenged. But sitting for one hour with no sounds, no activities, is a challenge too. Maybe make meditation your habit?
Good question. There are so many hobbies you can get in to - but it takes effort to just stop PMO and go out and try them. For most, you'll hate them and that is fine. Move on to the next. I highlighted what I like! Good luck in discovering what interests you, trying it and seeing it works. There will be more than you imagine that pique your interest. I have 3 main things I do: 1 - Computer programming 2 - Music and meditating 3 - Sports and anime I don't have many hobbies.
Amazing great to know. The reason why I ask is because I always see Facebook ads for this kind if thing and wonder if they actually all work. I'm not that skeptical , I always wanted to talk to someone who REALLY dose it.
For me: Weight Training Krav Maga Guitar Project car (1993 VW Corrado VR6--badass little ride) Making cocktails (check my journal for recipes) Reading (always have a library book or two in my possession, usually on some kind of self-help or motivation) Riding my motorcycle (just learned to ride last year and having fun with it) I love the intention behind the OP's post, though. It's infinitely easier to resist porn if you have something positive to turn toward, and aren't just sitting there white-knuckling it. Load up your life with positive hobbies and set goals for them.
