I'm 26, a husband, father of two, and a student, but I'm still going through the same cycle that's I've been trapped in since I was 11. I've tried to change on my own over and over again since I joined the Church at 19. I was successful for a time, but now I see no way out. It's gotten so much worse recently. It used to be once a month, then once a week, and now its multiple times a day. It seems like any hint of stress, and I want to retreat to porn. I'm out of control. Please, scriptures to read, advice, anything would be a great blessing.

Welcome brother -- I think there's a good community of folks here who understand what you're going through.

That you're here and wanting to rise above it is great. Don't get down on yourself because it's hard, from CS Lewis:
"No man knows how bad he is till he has tried very hard to be good. A silly idea is current that good people do not know what temptation means. This is an obvious lie. Only those who try to resist temptation know how strong it is. After all, you find out the strength of the German army by fighting against it, not by giving in. You find out the strength of a wind by trying to walk against it, not by lying down."

This isn't a deliberate rebellion on your part; it's a weakness. God does not see weakness as rebellion. Keep praying for help with this.

Welcome! I'm so glad you are here! One thing that helped me a lot was to try to write a journal and document what lead to relapses. This helped me to get more self aware and start to make more progress.

Every effort to change is a success. There are lots of good pieces of advice out there, but here are a couple for good measure. Try to do good things and fill some of the space that porn is occupying. Give yourself credit when you say your prayers, show up on Sunday, or are kind to your wife or kids or anyone. Spend some time outside. Get help. You’re not a bad soul, you’re a good soul with a weakness and the Lord is extremely merciful to all of us who are sincere.
