What are you all's opinion on this?
1 John 1:9 says "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" and John 15:5 says "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing". This makes me think that God is the one making us clean and purifying us from porn addiction. However, 1 Thess. 4:4 says "that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable" and 1 Timothy 4:7 says ". . . rather, train yourself to be godly."

So I wonder what role do we play in cleansing ourselves from porn and what role does God play?

I ask because I've just been spiraling downward emotionally the past couple days; pleading with God to cleanse me because my heart still desires porn. I'm on a clean streak of 11 days so far, but I don't feel I'm moving closer to Jesus.

Also, I'm trying to rely on Jesus for strength (Philippians 4:13) to fight porn, but I don't feel His strength. I also feel like secular methods of fighting porn teach you to rely on your own strength and, possibly, push you further away from Jesus.

Does anyone have any tips or advice or anything? I want to rely on God's strength instead of my own, but I feel like I have neither of those to rely on.

I think we should be patience bc this problem (PMO) is like the slavery in egypt where the people of Isreal suffert. And god helped them to escape from there but like the people of Israel we always want to go back to (slavery) porn bc when they where in the desert with mose they always grumble. So the think we have to d pray to god a lot and to trust him because having urges and desires for porn are better than being back in slavery (PMO every day).

And god is seeing us and he knows that we suffer but remember jesus also said: “Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry.

I will give you rest.” Matthew 11, 28 So trust in him and carry this cross which I know is suffering but I think this is the right way to follow him bc he said: "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me" Luke 9:23 and what is helping me a lot is to talk with jesus just like he is your best friend and ask him what to to and tell him how hard it is to stay away from porn, to recover from it, because he will listen and will give u the right answers.

Check out the FREEdom process linked in the Information section. Our role in the fight is to take every thought captive for Christ and submit them to him for help finding the lies and replacing them with his truth. Our role is to remain focused on the truth, no matter what. Our role is to commit to not view P and to not MO, no matter what. For me, this has often looked like simply sitting still in a chair, letting the temptations wash over me, refusing to act on them until they pass, until my mind is focused on truth to the exclusion of all else.

In those moments of stillness, while the storm rages all around us and even within our own hearts and minds, it when Jesus does what only he can do, slowly transforming us to become more like him.

I think that in many ways it boils down to free will. God gave man free will because He didn't wish to create a bunch of slaves or robots. God doesn't take back gifts so we will always have that free will. Therefore, God waits for us to call on Him; to truly want His grace to fill us. When temptation strikes, I turn my eyes away and I turn to prayer. Perhaps most effective for me is to contemplate on the Lord's passion. Consider each blessed wound He received on our behalf and to say to the Holy Spirit, I don't wish to add more sins for Our Precious Lord to bear, I want to be filled with the Father's love. I WANT IT!

It is a co-operative effort. You accept Jesus as your savior and you are cleansed. You start to nurture the relationship with Him. Abiding in the vine is you spending time with Jesus and away from porn. At 11 days your old habit, way of thinking are still going to work on you. Practice continually turning to Him, his word, worship, meditation, church, small group, recovery group...If you keep getting near to Jesus and staying away from porn, the feelings will follow your actions. The strength of Jesus is available to those who stay yoked to him, or teamed up with him.

First, Philippians 4:23 is not about strength, it is about endurance. You are not doing this by your own strength but by the Holy Spirit working in you. Self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, so it must be Him who works it in you. Philippians 4:13 is about enduring hard times and waiting patiently for the salvation of the Lord (Lamentations 3:26). 1 Corinthians 10:13 says that no temptation is upon you which you do not already have the strength to endure and that God provides the way of escaping that temptation. You just have to listen to Him.

Any relationship is based on communication, so should our relationship with God be. You will not beat this without conversing with God constantly, and listening to what He says. He may tell you to clean, or work out, or go for a walk. These are what He intends for you to do to teach you to follow Him and not idolize porn. This is the easy way and light burden Jesus describes in Matthew 11:28-30.
