I encourage you to read Psalm 78 in its entirety. You have to delve into the OT to see the full character of God. There are many things he has allowed which may surprise.

God only punish them when they break 10 commandements if they obey it god will bless them and never “testing” for his mysterious way

But you cannot use the scripture about rebellious jews and how god tormented them because break the law we are under grace

If you think by using half law half grace makes people holy and fear god you are wrong grace is above law and new comandement is we love another as he loves us
