For 8 years I watched P but never M ! But since 2014 I was trapped into M. Sometimes I say "Only M is harmful. I watch P only to gain pleasure. It doesn't lead to M". Am I wrong?
Watching P without M still affects your brain. It still produces the changes in your brain's reward system, much like drugs or other addictive behaviors. It will still produce many of the same negative effects in your life as P and M together.
The opposite question is more puzzling. Is M without P harmful? P is artificial and changes the brain that has not been there before the year 2000. M has been there before humand evolved and seems natural. So?
I don't think Masturbation without porn is bad. It's natural. It's human. We're human beings who are sexual in nature. We've always been like that. Masturbating to sensation is fine. But I'm sure there will be die-hard purist ignorant idiots who will challenge me on that here, because it's NoFap.
I personally don't think M is that harmful, but it takes away lot of the benefits of abstaining. P on the other hand might even be worse than PMO, because it could allow you to watch more porn, no orgasm that makes you stop. Worst is edging with P, and after maybe hours, finish with a big load. For a reboot it obviously makes sense to do a phase without M to let the whole system cool down. Than there is the chaser effect which is much more real than I thought. To come back to the question of the poster... I agree with kattskagg, P without O sound really bad. Because, when I was still doing P, I was actually happy when I manages to quickly masturbated to porn. Straightforward going to release in a few minutes. On the other had, the long afternoons and nights lost to edging and/or 3 orgasms, these hurt. (And continuing first thing in the morning.) P without M sound like an eternally extended version of that.
Yeah, violence is natural, still it's bad. But yeah there are people who are going to extremes, but staying from masturbation (or even sex) completely might be the only way for some people, like an alcoholic have to stay completely sober, just one beer can lead to another and soon your back down again. I never said that I was against NoFap. I'm in the belief that masturbation to sensation is good for you within the realm of moderation. Porn is bad and as well as masturbation to porn is. I am here because I have PIED and am trying to help people/get help. But I've seen people here believe that masturbation is bad because they're purists and seem to be taking it way to the extreme.
Yes I think porn is the thing that causes to most problems. It can get you unrealistic views on life and make you feel ashamed.
Porn is more harmful than masturbation, it's more addictive. Without porn I wouldn't even masturbate. If it wasn't for porn I wouldn't masturbate.
Masturbating and releasing your vital energy/sperm is harmful in the sense that you are wasting your most precious and most potent energy that is stored within a man for a few seconds of temporary pleasure. Sexual energy is the strongest energy, if you practice semen retention (abstaining from masturbation) for a long period of time, you will harness this intense energy within you that you can use to better your life in creative ways. This newly generated creative energy will give you the willpower, motivation, vitality, youthfulness required to pursue your goals in life. I have personally experienced this incredible energy on a long streak of NoFap (No Porn, Masturbation, Orgasm), I noticed all of the above, and this was only after around 50 days streak. Imagine if you go 90 days, 365days +, you will have this energy within you in abundance. When driven by this desire, men develop keenness of imagination, courage, will-power, persistence, and creative ability unknown to them at other times. So strong and impelling is the desire for sexual contact that men freely run the risk of life and reputation to indulge it. When harnessed, and redirected along other lines, this motivating force maintains all of its attributes of keenness of imagination, courage, etc., which may be used as powerful creative forces in literature, art, or in any other profession or calling, including, of course, the accumulation of riches. - Napoleon Hill (Think and Grow Rich)
Uhmmmm... Porn has been around a LOT longer than the year 2000... it's just gotten a lot more accessible since the Internet.
Ok... why? Explain the reasons and justifications please. I've read some of the stuff around here, but masturbation will still release the same dopamine when I imagine something in my mind as opposed to watching porn. Sometimes the orgasm is even better. Why is it watching it without M more harmful?
It's just my personal experience. I think masturbation without watching any psubs or porn isn't that addicting and disconnecting, because it doesn't put you in a that intense trance as porn. I think it doesn't change the brain chemistry in that extreme way as porn does. I think there is also some research on this topic. There are also some success stories about guys who transformed their lives by abstaining from porn completely, but still masturbating once a week to nothing but the physical sensations.
@masterjedi _Searching_ for the next kick keeps the dopamine high. The orgasm actually lets it drop. Humans are programmed to be seekers. For the same reason I used the year 2000 as a starting point for our problem: Looking at a copy of playboy or reading a dirty novel or even watching a VHS has much less impact than xvideos-style tube sites. There is no "seeking the next, even hotter thrill" involved in watching a VHS video. It's what you chose at a video store, took home and watched from beginning to end reaching an orgasm. You don't feverishly click on even harder videos to find an even more intense kick. I was born in 1974. Growing up with protective parents, I did not see much porn until i turned 18 and could go to the sex shop in the next big city. I was basically protected from screwing my brain until it was properly wired. This sounds incredible today, right. Even during the 90s porn was still comparatively harmless, even if it was more accessible via internet. Have you read "Your brain on porn" by Gary Wilson yet? It's all there. He sees the beginning of trouble as late as the year 2006 when high speed internet became widely available.
I hear ya... same year, except my parents weren't as watchful... been addicted to PMO since the good old age of 12. Made dating and marriage a not-so-wonderful experience. Especially my teen years, you should be grateful it didn't happen to you until 18. I honestly don't believe the trouble began that late. "Borrowing" playboys and other nudey-magazines wasn't that difficult as a teen, nor was getting a porn-movie. Even so, hot-girls on TV, or even the Sears-catalog would suffice in a jam. Has it gotten easier with high-speed Internet? Absolutely!! And I agree with the harder seeking-thrills completely. I watched things I never would have dreamed of as a kid. But I've been addicted long before the year 2000. =(
