Hey guys i just realized youtube is a bad addiction also. All the stuff on there could keep me watching videos for hours on end I think i must avoid it and use that time for more beneficial things. what do you's think
Well I just joined but I completely agree with you. Youtube as far as I know is okay to use as long as you are genuinely interested in the topic you're watching and that you not skip from compilation to compilation, cat video, sport etc all in a mad dash. The more stimulation you give your brain the more it craves the novelty of that new youtube video and will shorten your attention span. I use youtube for short documentary pieces, political crap and guitar walkthroughs. If you're interested and have patience with the topic than it's fine.
Start using it to educate yourself, subscribe to channels that teach you something and only watch their videos. It'll stop feeling like a waste of time if it helps you become a better version of yourself.
Hello, I also had an addiction to youtube...but now I just "STOP" it.... I gave the admin password to someone I trust and made the website www . youtube .com closed to me!!! You can do it with the "host" data. If you are interested in how it works just google it...."look website ->host data"! Wish you the best!
I agree, YouTube videos could keep me watching on end for hours. I have to cut back on the time I spend on it.
All addictions go up to the same root: Escaping from reality. Fear of making decisions. Fear of taking self-responsibility Fear of changes and the unknown. Fear of self-discipline. Having no plan. Solution: Make a clear decision. Take self-responsiblity. Move.
Why don't you watch educational videos like physics, chemistry, biology or whatever you want. Many people use youtube as an educational source, you can just learn photoshop in two days with youtube, you can learn a new language, you can learn how to code, you can learn how to draw and how to be creative. And as Bill gates said "The more you learn the more you earn"
i use 2g 20kbps internet connection . only <1gb for 28days plan. indian internet is worst. its another thing, i cannot afford spending more than 200 Indian rupees = 3.10487 US dollars on internet monthly. i disabled images in firefox . i installed sunsetscreen blue color filter eye strain reducer. TV is the worst thing for me.
Eww, i feel ya, same here in Egypt. Internet connect is very slow, plus that 1mbps=20 dollars. Yes i know it's so annoying that you wish you would go and throw a nuke bomb at internet companies.
Youtube is a big problem here too. It's not P, but almost another addiction. Considering have a long break from it to see how that feels. Just one advice, If you decide to use it, enable ad-block and don't sign in. That will keep some heavy triggers away.
Yeah other then for music for when I am showering or cooking I am just going to stay off it, it does me no good watching the videos they have on there they don't effect me in any way.
I definitely have a problem with Facebook and twitter. Spend way too much time on there. And reading the news. I refresh sites over and over. Am planning to tackle that eventually. It's definitely an escape for me. Avoiding things I really need to do. It's also about seeking information and validation. Little hits of dopamine.
No wonder the founders of facebook and twitter became billionairs. It's in our brains. Our brain is made to constantly look for "gains" or "threats". It processes any information it gets. The social sites exploited this behavior. In the age of internet we are overloaded with information, and thus, we must actively decide to look away. In fact, the internet teaches us to become monks. It teaches us the value of looking away, and the value of focussing to our inner core.
I agree with literally everything said in this thread. Porn addiction thrives on novelty ... but so does internet addiction in general. Whether it's YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, whatever ... those endless clicks into new, interesting material promise to satisfy our infinite appetites for distraction. If you find that you're using a particular site compulsively, block it completely. After a period of abstinence you can decide if you can go back to viewing in moderation. But as soon as I find myself saying, "this feels like addictive behavior", I cut that s*** out completely because I know I can't trust myself with lesser measures.
