IGY = International Geophysical Year. It was an international scientific project that lasted from 1 July 1957 to 31 December 1958. Of course, that was long before I was born.It marked the end of a long period during the Cold War when scientific interchange between East/West had been seriously interrupted. As a fan of Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, I loved his first solo album - The Nightfly (1982). The first song on the album is I.G.Y. (What A Beautiful World). Have a listen:- So, why did I pick IGY to identify me on this forum? Because the chorus sums up my optimism about completing this challenge successfully: "What a beautiful world this will be, what a glorious time to be free."
NetRang3r comes from the first mission impossible. the name belongs to a hacker who goes by "The Net Ranger" and "Phineas Phreak". I thought it was cool when I was like 12 and hanging around more underground computer sites, and honing my white hat / phreaking skills. so I change the name a little and it has been my alias ever since.
Seems like a no-brainer for me. The word calisthenics comes from the ancient Greek words kálos (κάλος), which means "beauty", and sthénos (σθένος), meaning "strength". But it means "the beauty of strength", it can apply to so many things beyond physical and bodily strength. Willpower, mental strength, attitude, all that can be strengthened. Here, it's willpower, perseverance and determination, and you gotta be strong to deal with addictions! Now it seems kinda stupid but meh.
According to chinese astrology, I was born in the year of the dragon, when the earth element was ruling. So I became EarthDragon. Not that I believe in astrology, but it sounded cool.
My username was a combination of a few things being I idolize Bruce lee and love his movies.Fists of fury is my favorite one. Also I always feel a connection to the water. So I combined those two things Bruce Lee and water.I ended up with the user name 1000 water fists. It just stuck for me.
I don't have erectile dysfunction. But I have to say that that was pretty good. You saw the opportunity and took it. Well done
Mumchance is an archaic Regency-era English word meaning to be silent. It comes from middle English mommen and Middle High German mummenschantze, masquerade. I picked it because it evoked the silence of the detrimental effects of pornography and because pornography on its surface masks something dark and ugly. My other username would have been mzungu, Swahili for white person.
My user name is a term used to describe people who belong to the covanant called Heirs of the Sun on the video game Dark Souls. In the game, after joining the covanant, in order to rank up you must place a summoning sign outside of boss rooms to be summoned by other players for assistance with killing them. I wanted to personify this in the fact that I love helping people and love seeing people complete their goals. It fits me in that aspect.
Haha mine's my first name! For some reason the more time passes the less prone I am to chose another username than my real name. I changed my username actually a year ago, before it was cocorosie, the name of my favourite band ever ever ever. PS really really love learning about all your names guys
No idea really, I started using it when the first Lord of the ring came out. Big fan of Superman and thought that the idea of a "supergollum" was kind of funny. I actually misspelled it the first time I used it (supergolum instead of supergollum) and stuck with it.
Most people here have pretty clever reasons . I feel silly saying my username came about because I liked charmed. The power of 3 will set us free!
Spicy McHaggis used to be the bagpipe player for one of my favorite bands "Dropkick Murphys". I picked up Haggis as a SN and have used it for years since
