The Link Between the Porn Industry and Trafficking?

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by Deleted Account, Sep 19, 2017.

  1. Is there a link between porn and sex trafficking?

I've heard the claim before but I'm interested in seeing trustworthy evidence.

There this article that states there is.

But I then came across this that says the claims of human trafficking are anecdotal or sensationalistic.

  2. I want to say a Ted Talk I saw mentioned that porn created escalation which could result in the viewer getting into trafficking (as a client or viewer of harder stuff). Personally, I think it definately contributes. All the porn that is "teren"'portraying young girls who are obviously supposed to be portraying underage girls in school uniforms, some with braces, etc makes men fantasize about young girls. And for an addict or dysfunctional this could get bad.

I don't hunk trafficking is real mi read reports all the time of parents who sell their children for sex prostittute them out. It's sickening.

Another thing is the current DHS campaign aimed at stopping trafficking. Obviously there is some validity to it.

  3. Of course there is a link... what do you think people buy and sell young girls for? Their housekeeping skills?

    I feel like this is a Do'h!

  5. Yeah, agreed. Lol it's hard to answer a question when the answer seems like it should be blindingly obvious.

Well... If not housekeeping, it's their amazing cakepop making skills!

    Can't have enough cakepops!

  7. I think the question was more about financial connection between sex-slavery and porn-industry. I've been on seminars with people making research on it, and according to them there is such connection. For example sex slavery is being promoted by porn sites.

There is also that thing, you can't tell if persons on a porn video are doing this because they chose it or not. You just can't, and this kind of sexual exploitation is also very often (sex slaves "produce" a lot of porn). This generates profit that also support further slavery.

  8. Asking for a connection is a bit of a loose term but I was thinking whether you'll find trafficked victims on porn sites.

What do you mean by 'of course'? Are you saying we should assume something to be true without doing any research? From experience that usually isn't a good idea.

Sorry for taking this slightly off topic but I keep seeing people saying science tells us that porn is addictive and is bad for us, but a closer look at the science you can see it's not the case. At the moment science shows us porn is just as addictive as coffee but not on the same level alcohol and drugs. Now as more research is done and more are expose to internet porn, science might come to the concision that it's as dangerous as alcohol and drugs, but at the moment it's not the case. Science VS did a pretty good show on science of porn addiction. I felt it was a fair and balanced show where they heard from a range of different people including someone from Reboot Nation.

https://soundcloud.com/science-vs-season-1/pornography (might contain triggers for some).

Don't get me wrong I'm not setting out to defend porn, I just think we shouldn't be exaggerating facts. I think most of the exaggerating isn't done on purpose, usually through ignorance but I think there are some who know they are exaggerating and I think that shows a lack of integrity. I know it's easy to do such a thing but it shouldn't be done imo.

Onto the facts around the links between porn and trafficking... Well I must say I'm deeply suspicious of sites and organisations that say they're bringing news from a 'Christian prospective'. For me that's Christianese for Christian propaganda. I use to think such news was truthful because Christians were writing or broadcasting it, but it seems to me that's not the case. It seems like they have an agenda to make Christians and Christianity look better... Anyway I bring that up because the only people who seem to be saying there's a link are mainly Christians, and as a result I'm deeply suspicious about the claims

I struggled to find a site that wasn't Christian that had writing on this issue. While Rescue:Freedom appears to be Christian it seemed to link to credible sources. Having taken a closer look at the sources some of the things they claim are undeniable but some of the claims they make are somewhat questionable since the sources are broken links, pages that appear to have nothing to do with trafficking or some personal blog (and anyone can say anything on a personal blog). So from what I gather the issue of trafficking is complicated. Most trafficked for sexual exploitation seem to end up in prostitution rather than porn, only a few end up doing porn. But then it seems like we don't know enough on this issue to say for sure only a few end up in porn

Actually, yes. Mende Nazer was trafficked for that reason.

In The Protection Project, Zbigniew Lasocik states the following:
When one reviews the publications on human trafficking, it seems obvious that most of the research on the issue has focused on trafficking for sexual exploitation, whereas trafficking for forced labor has received relatively little attention. If we simultaneously look at the European labor market, we can see that movement of labor has continued to increase and that there is an increase in different forms of labor exploitation.

  9. No, I'm not. I'm fairly certain there is already tons of research on this subject. I'm not sure why this guy is asking this question here instead of researching himself.

Oh my gosh, this keeps happening to me on this site. Does nobody understand hyperbole anymore? I'm well aware of the existence of trafficking for forced labor. My words were not meant to be taken literally and out of context. My only point is that of course sex traffickers make porn with their girls, if they are girls trafficked for sexual reasons. It's just pure logic. Why wouldn't they? It gives them another opportunity to make a crap ton of money. If they're already raping them and allowing other people to rape them, why not toss up some lights and film it and make tons more money?

Also, a lot of stories I've read of ex-porn stars have including trafficking stories. Like that's how they got into porn in the first place. So no, I didn't form my opinion out of thin air... I just didn't feel the need to do research for someone who clearly has access to the internet just like I do, to answer a question that seems incredibly obvious to me.
