I wish I could have replied sooner, but doing so would have shown my hand. The response he gave me is the one I expected.

It’s all in the way he asked for an explanation. He used the word “please” but didn’t demonstrate sincerity. Had I provided a reason behind why I wasn’t going to explain, he’d play the “but I’m asking nicely” card

Had I explained, it pretty obvious we’d just get more and more ridiculous responses, right?

So what am I to do? If I explain, it is going to be frustrating. If I explain why I won’t explain, I weaken my position.

What I can do is count on him to continue his trollish behaviour and try to call me out on the small flaw I made in a call to rationality.

He exploits the flaw, he shows his hand.
