Have you ever read the 12 steps? Although it's a book focused on the recovery of an alcoholic, they are principles applicable to any other addiction.
Step number 8 is to make a mental list of the damage we cause to others with our addictive behavior.
So that feeling of guilt that you now experience is very good for recovery.
Its funny you should bring this up as one of my best friend's who is a recovering alcoholic told me to look at step 8 last night. Thanks for the encouragement.
