Soliciting Feedback: Should there be a separate forum section for religious posts?

Discussion in 'Rebooting - Porn Addiction Recovery' started by Administrator Account, Jul 14, 2014.

  1. NoFap on reddit is strictly secular and religious threads are deleted if they do not have anything to do with personal stories about porn addiction. There is a seperate subreddit /r/NoFapChristians which has been super successful.

Is this something that people would want here, as well?

    Our rules currently state:
Please refrain from posting things of religious or anti-religious nature unless if you’re sharing your personal story. If someone mentions how religion or non-religion has helped them, please do not criticize them. If you want to debate, there are other web communities for that. Unless if you’re sharing your own personal story, submissions should be secular so that Fapstronauts from all backgrounds can benefit from it. Live and let live - regardless of your faith or lack thereof, don't try to impose your views onto other Fapstronauts.

I can make a subsection for every religion that requests one - main sections would have religious threads moved to these respective sections. What do you think? Good or bad idea? Also we can just remove religious posts and keep them within the forum software's Groups feature.

This isn't meant to exclude anybody, but just an idea to make the main areas relevant to Fapstronauts of all backgrounds - religious and non-religious.

I was also thinking about doing the same for Women and LGBTQ community members (not removing or moving threads, but creating areas for these people to find each other, find support, and talk about related issues).

My only reservation is particularly passionate users may try to incite users in those specific sections, espcially since these subforums would be displayed just as prominently as the other non-religious subforums like offtopic or accountability partners. If we do this, I think all the religious subforums should be under their own heading at the bottom of the index, below the age subforums.

I like the idea of using groups for this but those are not apparent right away to new users so it might not even work. You would have to make a "PLEASE READ RE: RELIGIOUS CONTENT" sticky thread at the top of the General NoFap (maybe Newbies also) forum explaining how the groups work.

I think we should try the former, subforum option and see how it goes.

If you decide to that, Alexander, I am formally requesting a Buddhism subforum. =]

A separate section for religious posts would be ideal.

I agree, a separate section for religious posts would help.

The subsections sound like a good idea. Can I just say I try to never mention religion? People always seem to bring me into discussions on it, lol.

I agree with Abel. NoFap seems to bring 'secular' people and Christians closer together, which is a good thing if you ask me. Like Abel said, as long as there is no 'attack' on religion or aggressive attempts to conversion I see no reason to change this.

I think it's pretty strange altogether to think other peoples experience couldn't interest you when they are Christian (or not).

I agree with Ferdydurke. I think spirituality is an important part of the human experience for many people. Of those, many identify with a particular religion. I haven't seen any posts which contravene the rules you have mentioned, Alexander. I think it is good for people with different views to mix, rather than saying all the atheists have to be in this section, all the agnostics have to be in this section, all the religionists need to be in this section.

Personally, I think it would be better. I know that a huge part of the members are christians and I totally respect that, but I think there are some advices and tips that only other religious people would agree and put it into their everyday lives.

Personally I think having a more diverse mix of people is better, we are all here for one thing. Trying to segregate people may mean that some folks will naturally migrate to certain area's and that may weaken the overall effect of this site.

The different viewpoints and experiences are of real value.

If it is not clear, I prefer not to have religious sub groups.

My tuppence worth is that I think a lot of damage has been done to both sides by religious groups that want to segregate themselves from the world. This deprives "outsiders" of whatever benefit the faith group think they have and also prevents the religious group from broadening their understanding of the outside world. When we only mix with and hear from like minded people our own views can become more and more blinkered. So I would vote for keeping the mix and allowing all types of spirituality to co-exist and influence each other - with appropriate respect and restraint.

I think that this'd be a great idea. Oh, and could you also include a column for Muslims?

As a Christian, I tend to want to read other posts from people with the same beliefs as me. Less triggering content and I get support on two levels; nofap and faith.

On the other hand, I like to read what non-christians struggle with. It takes away the mystery of "what if". Also I like to see how they deal with problems without God. Sometimes I learn something new.

    So basically I'm neutral.

    THIS.

And people are already pushing to get sub-forums for their ambiguous religions too. Keep it simple. I don't mind mixing it up!

  19. The religious posts are really annoying, i agree with a different section for that.

The diversity of opinions and reports are all valid. A subgroup implies in split the forum into pieces ... The forum will not be more global, will be partial to people. Will be divided. I think this is not good. I think the ideal is to have the respect between us, regardless of our spiritual choices (I'm Christian, and this no means that i cannot respect all). I believe that the purpose here is to discuss what we aim, it is to have a healthy life without PM, adjust our problems and be reborn to a new life. Each one believing in your own concepts and preserving own ID, being authentic and mature.
I think that the collective is ideal and should be preserved, respecting us.
Instead split us, i defend our union.

Let it be clear to all that in my view we should unite and not separate us.
