    Hi, guys!

As I strongly believe in therapeutic magic of cinema (which is my greatest love), I wanted to start a thread, within which we can recommend one another some films to watch. Those would be flicks of cathartic value - about facing one's fears and demons, taking the steps toward fulfilling lives, getting one's shit together and alerting one of addictions' dangers.

Here's some for you to start with:

    1. "The Revenant" - I believe this is a must see for any addicts, who found themselves in the gutter. Of course you can watch it as a movie about a guy, who happened to be torn into pieces by grizzly bear, but I like to see it as a metaphor. It is a film about rising from your knees and willingness to survive, also about coming to terms with yourself and humbly taking a hit from the universe. If you're strong enough, you will carry on. But you must die first, if you want to be transformed and born again.

    2. "La Dolce Vita" - a classic from Federico Fellini. Bitter-sweet film about cages we find ourselves in. Cages we do not leave even though they are wide open. Why don't we just fly? Tell you why. These cages are too fucking comfy and we are too fucking lazy and afraid of the outside world. We are afraid because we've never been out.

Look out for hot Anita Ekberg, for those who are afraid of relapsing (but there is no nudity in the trailer).

    3. "Pod Mocnym Aniołem" (eng: "The Mighty Angel") - I wonder if you know that one. This is Wojciech Smarzowski's film (currently the hottest name among polish filmmakers). It is about booze addicted writer, struggling with his demons, going from being clean to falling again - over and over. The narrative is very suggestive, as it masterfully mirrors the drunken spin alcoholics find themselves in (same goes for PMO addcition - same mechanism).

    4. "Don Jon" - I think this is the first movie ever that raised a subject of PMO addiction. Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a PMO junky, who struggles with all its impact that we know so well.

"Don Jon" contains sexually explicit scenes (even shots from actual porn flicks). Therefore I do not post the trailer. You watch it at your own peril.

More to come, if you're interested.

    Cheers,
    Gabe

    Gabe,

I really like your idea here. I love movies myself and find them to be motivating and insightful into myself in different ways. I will check some of these out, and if you want to keep recommendations going that'd be great!
