Being addicted to PMOing, I've been getting a lot of urges to use. In the past, I used to give in whenever I got a strong urge, or I would try pushing it away but that would only make the urge stronger. Then I learned about a technique called Urge Surfing, which is used to deal with urges for an addiction. Basically it states that an urge is like a wave, it gets stronger initially, but over time if you don't give in to it or try to resist it, it will naturally weaken and go away. The key is to stay in the moment, focus on your surroundings, and realize that you don't have to give in to an urge when it comes. This link explains more about how it works: http://www.choosehelp.com/topics/re...h-a-mindfulness-technique-called-urge-surfing
I needed this. I needed something new. I will be on board with this as soon as things go down. I am having an extremely difficult time with this. I am starting a PMO-free life as of about an hour ago. I can't count how many times I've tried. Wish me the best.
This is really good common sense advise. I believe this is what we do naturally if we navigate cravings but it is good to see it written down as a technique we can remind ourselves of if we feel we are getting overpowered by that next 'wave'.
Thanks for all the replies! I agree that Urge Surfing is common sense, but for some reason I keep on forgetting to use it. It has really been helpful to know that urges will eventually go away, rather than continuing to get stronger until you finally give in. I hope that other people also find it helpful, and I wish you all good luck.
