Failed after 17 days Feeling Horrible!!

    So after 17 wonder strong determined days, last night i relapsed and feel again. Had an argument and was feeling kinda crummy yesterday, had a few drinks and was at home alone (wife was out) when i don't know how ended up on the ipad wee hours in the morning searching for stuff and eventually falling. Today at work i said screw it and fell again. This sucks. I feel like all of my hard work just went down the drain and it is too hard. Was trying to make it to 30 days. Lately, i fall about twice per month. Any help?

    And I always lie to myself thinking that I'm not really failing that bad, because i'll search for stuff and tell myself that I won't fully look at the video, I'll squint my eyes so I can't see everything in detail or i'll only listen to the audio. Silly me :( I'm my own worst enemy.

    I think we are all our own worst enemy, I know I am.

    17 days is nothing to be ashamed of. That is a respectable attempt. If quitting things was easy, then there would be no 12 step programs or support groups, or great support websites like this. But, perhaps you can learn from this and be better prepared next time. Did you resolve your issue(s) or did you both storm off in different directions? If the answer is the latter, then try resolving the issue(s) and bring the issue to a swift and agreeable conclusion. If the answer is the former then you need to ask yourself why you still felt crummy even though you resolved the issue(s) and you and your wife were back to being 100% united in life. Either way I think you will find the answer you need to press past day 17 and on to day 30.

    Well i was in the same place as you six days back. middle of the night on an iPad and relapsed. And you know what the best advice that i can give is to keep moving forward. Life knocks all of us down but all we can do is get back up and keep moving forward. So get up hold your head high and put one foot in front of the other.

    Hey there. Just take it one day at a time. The battle is in yourself, and we are our own worst enemy. The best we can do is to keep busy and don;t think too much about not fapping or even fapping. Let the days come to pass. Give the gadgets a break. Maybe even get to know more about people. Get to know more about what's happening with your wife.

    I think its okay and normal to have arguments once in a while. Makes the relationship stronger and opens your mind to what both of you agree and disagree with. Don't fall back to porn. Its not gonna help. I'm not saying I'm not gonna go to relapse, but until then, I'll never quit battling my demons.

    Hey Dawkin,

    I feel your anger and frustration. That's ok, and it's good you feel this way. Relapses are bound to happen. This is a learning curve. We are trying to embed new ways of thinking and behavioral patterns to improve ourselves in the long run. You know what is best for you so just learn from this mistake and if this situation arises again then you should know to take the right path next time.

    Pick yourself up, re commit to this and look forward to beating this 17 days you have set as a mark.

    17 days is a long time. That's a win in my eyes. Now go for 20. And don't fool yourself. No porn means no porn at all. NoFap means NoFap at all. Best of luck.

    Setbacks happen - the question is can you learn anything that can make you stronger next time?

    Maybe you already know the BUSTED acronym - Bored Upset Stressed Tired or Depressed. Any of these things (and worse if there's a combination) can be trigger conditions that make us likely to look for a self medication remedy. And we know what that is.

    So it's really helpful to be self aware, recognise that you're on the point of being BUSTED and deal with that as the problem - not just the PMO which in this case is more like a symptom. So have a list of fun things or treats you save up ONLY for when you're BUSTED. A DVD movie you really want to see, something nice in the fridge, a great book we want to start, a walk, a view, phone a friend etc. Then being BUSTED isn't a nightmare high risk state - it's a chance to do something you actively enjoy and kick PMO's ass at the same time. Cool!
