Something I have wondered for a long time is how much impact porn addiction has on the world around us.

I know I am addicted, but knowing what it's like and what I have learnt from NoFap and other sites makes Me wonder. In the UK, the highest percentage of suicides are by young males. A number that has increased more and more each year. I see these statistics and can't help but wonder if pornography addiction is a silent killer for many of these poor people.

I then wonder about things like peadophilia, rape and other horrible sexual related crimes and question how many of these attackers are people who have become addicted and their route down the harder and harder porn channels has taken them to a place where they need to commit these crimes to get their fix. Just the other day I read about the guy from glee who plays puck having child porn on his computer etc. Is this another case of someone who is truly absorbed by this addiction and has just gone too far into the extremes to get his fix.

I can't help but think if there was a blanket ban across the internet for porn what would happen to statistics such as suicide rates, number of convicted peaodophiles, number of convicted rapes. Would they drop?

I remember watching a documentary about paedophilia where the guys who were arrested talk about what they go through and they just cannot help themselves, they are sexuay attracted and thats that! And the urges just push them even though they often don't want to. Did these guys always have this urge or has it developed.

I think many of us know how quickly watching simple porn can turn into watching some really fucked up shit.

    What does everyone think?

Just some thoughts after having a particurky bad day lol

  2. It's hard to measure but the potential is frightening. Even within my social circle, many of my male friends are going through bouts of depression and I can guarantee that porn is a big part of that for a lot of them. Of course, we don't speak about it...we mustn't do that!!!!

I think it's terrorfying how fragile the mind is and how little is known in general public! Like, sex education should really cover porn addiction In schools.

But it isn't the only thing that causes problems. I had a coffee addiction too, the caffiene made my adrenaline gland go on the Fritz so basically the anxiety was heightened! Since quitting coffee my standard of life has been better but now the porn needs to go. But so many doctors tried to put me on drugs and stuff like that when a kite restraint is what helps

I know from my NoFap streaks how it makes me feel and I love it. I just can't beat the cravings its so hard!

Pornography cannot be banned, its just impossible. Look at the war on drugs, and its a video.

You're right, and we are the lucky ones. We caught it early. Others have it and just assume they are depressed then get prescribed some SSDI.

    Cant help them, only yourself.

There was P all over the place in ancient Rome. I remember reading old Tiberius had pornographic paintings all over his walls in his country villa. If that didn't do the job for his flagging libido, he had peasant couples perform for him. Sad stuff, and this was the ruler of the civilized world.

    Word Origin
C19: from Greek pornographos writing of harlots, from pornē a harlot + graphein to write

Yes, it is frightening to think how not being informed about the long term effects of porn can lead you down very dark alleys.

Once you read and understand how the dopamine rollercoaster works you realize how it's natural to start searching for stronger stimulation once an addiction starts kicking in.

What's really strange is that this kind of mechanism is commonly associated to all kinds of drugs, but most people do not consider pornography to be a drug, while it really is, and with devastating effects as you said...

Yeah addiction is such a mad thing to read about. I think sugar and good addiction is also rife. For porn the addiction causes depression and anxiety, for food its obesity.

I like to think of it like the classic conscience depiction. On my left side is the angel. On my right the devil. But with addiction, both of these have been knocked out by a third character who is a total scumbag junkie who when you grab a fix appears kind and gentle and the longer you take to give him his next fix the more scumbag he becomes, urging you and persuading you while the devil and angel are knocked out and can't have a say themselves that would be rational.

Interesting point. So perhaps the over-washed masses, aka the middle class, think they are beyond good and evil! lol

T.S. Eliot once tipped his hat to the decadent French poet Baudalaire for that very reason. Baudelaire was very aware of the moral realm.

In basically every country, rapes are extremely under-reported and often are not prosecuted even when reported. Sweden's level of reported rapes is closer to reality, and they prosecute pretty often so rape victims figure they won't be wasting their time with the police. Foreigners often perpetrate these crimes, but in order to explain why rates are higher in Sweden than in their home countries, you have to be aware that Sweden's reporting rate is far beyond other countries.
