Hopefully I explained this well enough...

    Hello All,

Is anyone else out there dealing with more the temptation to fap only and not watch porn? For me currently the desire to watch porn isn't strong but the urge to just fap is. Many times I would enjoy just faping in the shower to no pictures or video. Does anyone else feel that the act is more the thrill rather than what they are watching? Everyone is different and no judgement, I was just wondering what other people have experienced.

    Stay strong brothers!

Sorry, my post was unclear. My goal is to get rid of fapping as well as any porn. My main temptation for now isn't to go online to find porn, its to fap. I'm having a difficult time expressing what I'm thinking. Perhaps its too early to make any observations. I'll keep at it.

  3. I feel exactly the same you Basstrombone, the hardest is not to quit porn but fap. We fed our body and brain with the feelings we have when fapping, we have to feed it with other feelings.

Inactivity is the worst thing ever!

    Let's stay strong!

Congratulations on getting to this point. Eliminating the porn piece is huge and the right start. Anon is spot-on about letting the urge just flow away. Take a deep breath, sigh and clear your mind. Let that energy be used for something more creative. The danger of the MO piece in the midst of recovery is that it keeps the connections in your brain still active and totally endangers going back to a dark corner and a trigger moment. Conversely, the further you get away without either PMO or MO, the stronger you become.

    Stay clean, stay strong- Peace!

I'm not sure if this answers your question any, but I do know I've gone months at a time during my years of addiction without porn or the overwhelming desire to view it. Having said that, when the fapping habit had been going on long enough, I found that porn just gave me that extra little budge of horniness to get me off a bit quicker. I would never simply browse porn for a long duration. Simply use it as a means to get things rolling as fast as I could.

It started turning into an every time thing, though. That's when I found this site. Since the two have been connected for the last 3 months prior to starting nofap, giving one up with the other has been easy. Conversely, relapsing has also been on both P and M. So I suppose my P addiction was just taking root when I decided to quit.

At any rate, keep up the good work! Lot of great guys on here that are incredibly helpful and encouraging -you're definitely in the right place to quit!

That's what I was trying to say. Right now the urge to look at P isn't there but I know the urge to M&O will come back at some point. All 3 go together of course so one must be vigilant but thanks to Anon and Lustfree for the tips. I like thinking about just letting it flow away, use your energy for something else.

I know we're all coming from different situations and vulnerabilities so I'm not trying to sound like I am better than anyone else. It just helps to get it out on the page.

Take care everyone and stay strong!

  8. I basically have the same thing going on, Bass, in that especially once I have stopped for awhile, my biggest challenge in desire to m, not so much to watch porn. If I do succumb, however, it tends to start a downward spiral in which porn is involved.
Great ideas on this thread about doing something creative, take a cold shower. Another thing I have been using successfully is to put the urge outside myself, by reminding my self "that is just the urge talking" and mentally turn away, doing the next thing. It feels qualitatively different than fighting it, which for me, seems to give it energy.

Good advice, I need to rewatch some of the videos on yourbrainonporn.com about the dopamine affect again. Interesting how its the brain calling for the dopamine and not PMO.

I remember a masterclass with John Hagstrom (he plays trumpet in the Chicago Symphony, I am a brass player myself as my username says, haha) and he talked about letting any nervousness before a performance or while playing go straight through him. Don't try to fight it, just let it pass through.

Exactly the same thing going on for me too. I did a reset due to MO, and the following day ended up leading to PMO. That might be because we give to much value to MOing in our reset journey. I'm pretty sure that giving it that amount of importance in my reboot is what led me to feeling so bad about it and PMO. It's just a spiral actually. We have to make sure that our small mistakes do not snowball and lead us to the very lifestyle we wanted to escape from.
    Stay strong guys!
