    Hi guys,

I'm really getting frustrated, is porn mimicking the symptoms of say social anxiety or OCD? Are are they really mental illnesses that I have?
    Please help...

The only way to find out for sure is to remove porn and see if these things remit. Social anxiety is commonly secondary to porn abuse but OCD is rarer, unless you mean hOCD or pOCD, OCD that specifically relates to doubting your sexual orientation (thinking you might be gay or a pedophile respectively, despite not truly being either of those things). If you struggle with OCD or social anxiety that doesn't go away after both removing porn and building a new, better life without it you may want to see a professional.

Thanks PerseveranceToday. I do think I have HOCD, I'm constantly scared I'll become gay if I do something wrong, if I don't watch more porn etc. I don't know how to fight it.

I used to struggle with pOCD, hOCD's criminal cousin, so I understand the pain. The most important thing to understand is that people with hOCD aren't gay. Gay men might not be totally comfortable with their sexuality at first, but they know they're gay, at least from puberty. Also, hOCD is one of those conditions which is almost always caused by porn, unless you have underlying OCD that manifested long before you started watching. So by not watching porn you aren't going to "become gay", in fact the opposite is true. Remember the brain is plastic and can change, with time spent away from porn and time spent with activities that are good for you and good for your recovery, these thoughts will go away. No question.

However while p- and h-OCD are related disorders they're not identical. To be honest, my pOCD was the one condition that remitted as I got more deep into my porn addiction whilst everything else in my life got worse. So I suggest reading stories of how other men have overcome this. There's plenty of success stories on yourbrainonporn, along with a study suggesting how to cure it. I would post them here, but my account isn't old enough to post links yet. If you google "hOCD yourbrainonporn" you should be able to find answers.

Thank you PerseveranceToday, I appreciate it. What do you mean by the opposite is going to become true? Is it possible to become Gay by watching Porn? I agree with you. I find it extremely hard to quit, as I keep going on for more, I relapsed this morning and now my ear is blocked, but I'm kind of planning my relapses. I feel the need to relapse up to Tuesday or Wednesday. I can't seem to fight it. I will have a look for those stories.

I was just wondering, is it bad to relapse with legs (A friend told me this way is dangerous)? It feels so much better than with hands. I did last two relapses with hands.

Also not sure if I should up the dose considering for ocd related issues they say nac can be taken up to 2400mg per day ? Also says it can take up to 12 weeks for nac to work ? Really appreciate it if you message back bro thanks !

Hi Craig, to be honest I'm not sure. I have researched a lot on OCD, and I found non-medicinal therapies that can help. Like Mindfulness Meditation, and also ERP (Exposure Response Prevention Therapy). You can also have St. John's wort powder, tea, or medicine that's said to help in at least 4-8 weeks. So I hope that helps. The longer you go away from Porn the thoughts do go away, but also get worse before they get better, we just have to push through this my friend. I don't know much about nac. But I hope I could help. I understand how you feel.

Thanks for the reply bro! Yeah I’ve struggled with these thoughts for about a year and I do remember they ease when I stop watching porn, it’s become more intense these past few months which I’m very afraid of but I’ve went extreme on blocking apps on my iPhone with screen time so here’s hoping I can pull through ! I do believe this fucking pandemic has made me worse because I can’t go to work just now and stuck in the house myself it’s horrible , hope you’re well mate and again thanks for the reply !
