I just read Marks mail about quitting gaming for 90 days. It's an very inspirering goal!

So, do anyone know how to quit using facebook without deleting your profile???

Like a real junkie I'll say that I need facebook because of certain infomation but I really want to quit it as much as possible. It's stealling so much time!!!!

Are you an social media addict? And do you know how to quit without quitting so to speak...?

  2. Well, just like PMO addiction, it's important to establish with yourself why you're wanting to quit (or at least regain control of yourself with it). So... First off, ask yourself, "Why do I feel like I'm addicted?" Because if you don't know why you're cutting back on it, you can't determine the gains from quitting. So... Secondly, figure out what you're gonna do with that extra time. I know with PMO, as well as Social Media, are very mind-lulling activities. It's easy to lose track of time with them.

In plain terms, what is social networking doing negatively in your life? Why do you want to quit and change that? What goal are you moving towards?

As far as quitting, it depends on if you're honestly only keeping your account for information, or if you are just trying to cut back on how long you use it. If it's the former, I'd say to just make a decision with yourself to not use it, and interact with real people. If it's the latter, I'd say to give yourself a time limit every day. Keep a log so you know "okay. I'm gonna use 5 minutes now, I used 10 minutes earlier. That means I only have 15 minutes after this, later on in the day.

You know, social networking may not be a bad idea for a sort of Fast for me, as well. :) Thanks for the idea! I hope I was able to help!

That minut rule is a great idea. I think I'm going to start out real easy and set an hour a day. I proberbly use social media a lot more a day now, but I really don't know how much cause I sort of lose track of time....

But I want to quit cause it's killing my creavity (writing, playing music etc) And I actually feel more anxious just after I've been on social media. Don't know why but I feel it.

You should try taking a day without it. The day turns so calm and quite. It's like time have just slowed down a great deal.....

Anyway thanks for your respons and your advice! :)

  4. But you've got to be sure you have a way to set a timer for yourself. It's easy to see "okay. 5 minutes is over" and keep looking anyway. That goes for PMO and Social Media. Really make it a point to use it sparingly. Use it with purpose. "Okay. I'm gonna make sure nothing Major has happened with friends or family, and then I'm gonna spend two or three more minutes just browsing, then I'm gonna quit." Be really conscious about what you're doing. :) Glad I was able to help!

From my experience I usually check on facebook and wind up looking at people's profiles that I don't even know...

I once accidently sent a friends request to someone random. :D

Yes - That's is also my concern. That I can't control it, That I can't stop after the 5 minutes. I thought of a new rule just now and that should be to only check social media once a day no matter the time I spent on it. Cause at some point I will feel like doing something else and by only checking it once a day I still get the info I need. Like in the afternoon before I go to sleep.... I don't know how that's going to turn out. I might just end up watching stupid videos on the LAD bible ... I wished there were a social media ONLY for important info - school related and work related.

Just now I feel like going to Youtube and Watch Conan o brien Which I know is going to take at least an hour of my time (+ - ) ... While I know that I could also sit down and read this one great book I got lying next to my bed.

    It always seems like the choice is between;
    1. doing something where you have to make an effort but the reward is great and makes you happy a long time
    2. doing something that's really laid back and really nice in the moment but there is no reward afterwards

Maybe just like the difference between PMO and real sex ?!?!?!?

Haha - I do that too and oh how I feel stupid to be honest. I spent my life on absolute nothing and that is looking at someone's profile on facebook that I've never met. That's it in a nutshell.

You know my day is always in a contrast of lust and wantings - like PMO - but in other areas it's like; Do I want to just relax and Watch some television OR do I want to sit down and write, make music, draw etc. (all the stuff that I have a naturally interest in!)

It would be fascinating to move in to a new home with nothing of any modern techonology to distract you and just learn to deal with being alive and doing nothing! Don't you think? I mean some place far away in the woods where you just need to focus on nature instead of social media, television, iphone, ipad.. all those things that I personally believe makes us more lonely and depressed without we even realise it ourselves.

I live in a small mountain town so I enjoy the outdoors a lot. I can't imagine myself living in a city. One of my dreams one day is to have a farm and be self sufficient. Have a more simple life.

It is sad how society has changed that now it is the age of Corporations where you need to get a job and work your whole life and have a career. Despite all this advancement it still makes life harder. Not to say I enjoy electricity and plumbing. Just people really have more than they need.

Even how my parents talk it seems like I have a stressful life growing up. Maybe that is why people have alzheimers. Simple natural way for your mind to relax in the stressful life we live in.

  9. Well, (and this would just be an extreme measure) if you're really wanting to avoid watching stupid videos, sometimes it's better to deal with the pain of 'unliking' something, than to fight the urge to watch the videos. Sort of that 'if your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off' thing.

If you can force yourself to use the Google Chrome browser on your computer, there is a great browser extension called "Stay Focused." It allows you to set a certain amount of time you can stay on a website before it kicks you off. I'm a college student and it works well for when I need to keep to my studies. You can find it by going to the Chrome Browser Settings->Extensions.
