Hi! My name is Lukas, I'm nonbinary, 19 years old, and I'm really not sure about this. I'm worried that my mental condition will worsen, since I've used masturbation as a coping mechanism for my various mental illnesses for many years. Even earlier today, I found myself choosing between pleasuring myself or cutting myself. I was sexually abused in the past, which is why I believe I would rather take care of my sexual needs myself than with a partner, plus the fact that I'm single. My best friend has told me numerous times that my masturbation habits and addictions are actually worsening my mental state. I'm not sure what to do anymore.

Welcome! You've taken the right step by joining NoFap. I've used PMO (and escorts) as a coping mechanism and I have been working hard at replacing them with more healthy activities, it has been difficult but I am grateful I chose this path. There are times where you just want that quick fix to escape your feelings but you are harming yourself further in the long run by becoming dependent on those vices.

I'm sorry to hear about your past Lukas. Please don't let what happened TO you, dictate who YOU want to be. I also use pornography/masturbation as a coping mechanism so i can somewhat understand where you are coming from. My advice is to take a deep breath and realize that you are worth it.
