Hey Caesar's Chariot, to answer your original question, yes you have to forego those channels too. I live in UK too and know which channels you mean. They were the triggers for my relapses in the past. Now they are behind a parental lock as is the internet -P in my house. Of course I know the passwords but that small step of having to unlock them reminds me of by determination to succeed and therefore I don't do it. You have to be committed, no P, no TV soft core, no bouncing around YouTube. If you are just starting, the first step is to find a way of physically stopping yourself accessing them, however crude that is. Then start working on stopping the thoughts that make you want to to go there. That's the phase I am in now. It takes practice and perseverance but the rewards will come. Good luck

  2. Yeah man, I live with my dad and brother and have experienced the same problems. The problem I found was that I could override the lock I set by simply setting the box back to default. I thought I'd found a way around this by throwing away the remote (I can still change channels manually). However, I didnt think to set a code first on those channels. A code I couldn't have overridden without the remote. Alas, I fucked up. I'm now considering getting rid of my free view box altogether.

  3. Thanks brother, its nice to know I'm not going crazy haha. How do you personally stop yourself from physically relapsing? Asking for a friend lol.

Something finally sunk in for me recently, very relevant to this. After many good streaks but still having the odd day where I binged porn, I searched for more information. What I found seems obvious, but like I say I think it just needs to sink in or be processed before it's of use.

Porn blockers, passwords, throwing away tech is all helpful. But it's not enough alone. Temptations are wherever we look, and even if there was a security guard in front of the computer/TV, we could just go out and find the drug elsewhere...

What many have found, is that by doing things we value each day, we don't feel as drawn to our old habit to 'fill the void'. Still, we have to be mindful of withdrawal days when everything feels bad. But in general, have a productive day = much less likely to search for avoidance through technology.

This has been summed up as three things to avoid:
    Using porn as medication
    Being hard on yourself
Focusing on the porn issue too much

    And three things to achieve:
    Physical exercise
    Passions & commitments
    Social interaction

If we have unproductive days where we sit around too much, eventually it gets to us, and we could defeat an army to get to our drug of choice lol. But stay busy & connected with people, and you'll find there's less reasons to go back to that habit.

Also, this is a very helpful explanation on tips to recover from porn addiction.

May want to grab a tea as it's 45 mins, but worth it!

  6. Okay. Maybe I was a bit harsh with my comments. At the end of the day we need to be able to cope with triggers and temptations. I have the iOS filter on my device but all I need to do is go into the setting and type in the code and then can watch porn. All a filter is is a speed dump and the same could be said for a child lock on TV. It's impossible to get away from women who you find attractive and sexual desire, we need to find away to cope with it in a healthy way. I'd say it's about changing the way you think about temptation not eliminating it. It's hard I know, I struggle with it myself but finding women attractive and having sexual desires isn't bad, it's what we do with these feelings that can make it bad.

Maybe you could get a YouView box. That's what I have and I removed all the adult channels and it's such hard work to put them back on that I can't be bothered to do so.

One thing that might help is The Porn Reboot Podcast. There's also a free course he does called 20 Ways To Quit Porn. There will always be p subs, we just need to change the way we think.

  7. You know man I've been thinking I was too harsh aswell. My apologies. Thank you for you're advice. I'll definitely look into your and Reborn16's suggestions about podcasts and videos. I've heard about the YouView box and NowTV, however last night, as promised, I got rid of my free view box so now I'm now only using my bedroom to sleep in. I think its for the best. Thanks for the replies guys.

  8. I remember when i was younger (i'm from UK too) we had a tv station called Television X which had a 10 minute preview before it got scrambled and you had to pay for it. That was one of the first examples of video porn i ever saw. These days with regards to TV, i honestly never watch it, i have cable TV with the most basic channels but 99% of the time i'm upstairs and i just watch TV online, like 4OD, Iplayer, Dave etc. Plus i have Amazon Prime so i can always find a film to watch or start a box set. I no longer find any need for channel surfing these days and my TV is only really turned on when i have people over, and even then no one is really watching it. I know what I like and watch what i want when i want so i don't have the problem of accidentally scrolling to a channel i don't want to see. The rest is just willpower and a resolve to never go to porn again. I could if I wanted just go and get tons of porn but i choose not to because i know how difficult it is to stop.

  9. That's what I was posting about earlier. It's been so long since I looked a the adult channels that I didn't know it got scrambled. For me it was The Sun that introduced me to porn and because of that I hate that newspaper and resent News Corp (although I do like the Wall Street Journal and some of the books published by HarperCollins are pretty good). I guess what The Sun is to me these TV channels are to other people.

Sounds like a good idea. I try to stay out of my bedroom but it's not easy. I'm trying to get into the habit of turning off my iPod Touch several hours before I sleep and leave it out my bedroom. It's not easy though.
