What do foreigners think of America?

Well, I am German and often visited the USA, mostly Florida, California, New Mexico. I always liked to go there. Since there is a president called Donald Trump I am not interested to visit the United States once more. And I guess 90 % of the Germans don't like Trump as a U.S. president. 25 % of the Americans voted for Trump, 75 % did not. So - I have no problem with U.S. citizens at all. Unfortunately my next flight to L.A., Miami or Albuquerque will be not before Trump has resigned as president.

 

Don’t say that, you’re the one who brought up guns. I know a few people already quoted what I said wanting to debate with me for my sensible comment about guns, but I’m just going to ignore it. We already did this a week or two ago and everyone was saying the exact same thing. Zzz

I agree with 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,15,16,20, and 21. For the rest; 7 does not apply to all americans, and could be applied to anyone on earth; 10, who gives a shit about hollywood + freedom of expression- people can have whoever they want in their movies; 11 is an opinion not a fact get that shit outta here; 12 not true, what about Israel, Japan, and all our other allies?; 13 again does not apply to all americans, especially not the black or asian americans; 14 We have the most prisons because we have too many laws; 17 not true, we do tolerate other cultures, but if a culture kills people out of tradition, that culture must go;18 While racism does still float around, that is not an inherently american problem(in other parts of the world its a lot worse); 19 Actually most americans dislike war, and the only time we go to war is if it is the morally right thing to do; 20 what's wrong with that? Capitalism FUCK YEAH!

 

I know I'm a little late to this thread but I wanted to say that this is only partially true. The women that buy into this mindset are liberal women. I haven't encountered any conservative women who have that same mindset. Where exactly do you live? What places are you seeing these kinds of women?

 

I have a love and hate relationship with America.

American music is the best I think. It's so diverse and I like a range of different music styles. Other countries have good music but I just think American music generally is better. I would chose the Grammy's over the BRIT Awards any day.

I listen to a lot of American podcasts like The Art of Charm, The School of Greatness, The Liturgists and RobCast. They have great content and are very informative.

I don't think Americans are arrogant, I think some Americans are arrogant and some are not, just with any other country you have people of good and bad character.

Yeah, I do think it's arrogant to say America is the greatest nation in the world, I think it's arrogant of anyone to think any nation is the greatest. Every nation has it's good points and bad points. I would never say my nation is the greatest. But not every American thinks their country is the greatest.

America is so politically divided. I don't think any other country is so divided politically as America is. The conservatives hate liberals, the liberals hate conservatives. I know some Americans are sick and tired of the animosity between the right and the left, like on The Liturgists podcast they talk about how ridiculously stupid both sides can be and wish people would stop demonising each other. But really I don't think America has truly recovered from the Civil War and I think it shows in the political division.

America's obsession with guns is mind-boggling. I don't think gun violence will ever stop because it's in the blood of many Americans. Maybe the early pilgrim father weren't as obsessed with guns and violence but those who followed them seemed to love killing people and things haven't changed much.

Then there's the ridiculous case of the American health care system. Ok, America doesn't have the worse health care system in the world, many third world countries have it worse but my god I don't get how so many Americans freak out about free health care. It's fucking ridiculous, it really is!

I hate televangelists and the whole thing originated from America. Those people are almost as bad as terrorist! The fundamental Christianity in America is damaging! Ok, to be fair it originated from England however it was stopped yet that didn't stop it from growing in America.

Having said all that not every American Christian is bad. There are some intelligent Christian authors and speakers but imo the majority are terrible.

NoFap is American and so are many other sites helping PA. But that kind of makes up for all the porn being made in America. I'm pretty sure I'm right in saying no other nation has made more porn than America.

So in conclusion I think America has many good points and bad points. But we could say that about every other nation in the world.
