I have completed one week of praying Lauds and Vespers (I also commit to Matins on Saturday early morning at Adoration.) This is an unexpected benefit to joining this group and finding men of my faith here. I don't know if saying the office is helping me to not PMO, but it must have some impact. Tomorrow I will return to the gym thus treating my body and soul as God's temple. Next up will be starting a book to nurture my mind.
I've come to really appreciate the divine office. It's a prayer for us to listen for a change. It's also reassuring to join in these prayers with y'all and the rest of the church.
Missed yesterday. Today We can pick God or PMO. Not both. Also It’s a good reminder we can do this. It is possible.
Question, for those who are praying both Lauds and Vespers (Morning & Evening Prayer), do you prefer the Benedictus or the Magnicicat? Although I love both, the Benedictus prayer of St. Zechariah, father of the Baptist, really does something for me spiritually.
9/20/17 - None - “When I say, “My foot is slipping,” your mercy, LORD, holds me up.” Psalms 94:18 NABRE A good reminder to ask God for help
Compline 9/21/17 - "Those who choose other gods increase their sorrows." When we choose idols, such as P, this rings quite true, doesn't it?
10/4/2017-Office of Readings Encourage yourselves daily while it is still “today,” so that none of you may grow hardened by the deceit of sin. (Hebrews 3:13 NABRE) You got this! We're in this together!
10/4/2017-Office of Readings Ant. 1 We groan in pain as we await the redemption of our bodies. For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him that made it subject, in hope (Romans 8:20 DRA)
10/5/2017-Office of Readings We triumph over all these things through him who loved us. (Romans 8:37) Brothers, I do not think of myself as having reached the finish line. I give no thought to what lies behind but push on to what is ahead. My entire attention is on the finish line as I run toward the prize to which God calls me-life on high in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:13-14)
10/13/2017 - Office of Readings They offered him a mixture of wine and gall (Matthew 27:34) reminded me of porn and masturbation
Today's first Psalm in the Office of Readings: Ps 68 (69) 'Save me, O God, for the waters have risen to my neck.' How often do we feel like this when the urge to act out comes! But God is good... later in the third Psalm we read 'As for me in my poverty and pain let your help, O God, lift me up. I will praise God's name with a song; I will glorify him with thanksgiving.'
