I’m wondering if this has to do with age or if I’m having anxiety issues? For the first time in weeks I read some news today, only about 10 minutes worth. Here were some of the stories: - vaccine mandates and requirements rolling out across the country - racist attacks against politician in California - murder in a certain city - celebrity going to prison - supposed Covid deaths in hospital in Ohio or Oregon in the US Since then my brain has been spinning, like I feel anxiety and depression and most of all FEAR! I mean I’d like to stay informed in some way but the news always makes me feel overwhelmed and fearful. It’s the reason I had stayed away from it for over a month. I’m wondering is something wrong with me? is it my age, being that I’m over 40 now? Is it me or is this for many other people? It’s like the news is 99% NEGATIVE and fear-inducing!
I don't watch the news. Makes me uber angry or sad. That's the point! Admittedly I was pretty concerned about Kabul because my neighbor was there, but other than that I do not watch it. Other than local news which has a direct impact on my life, I simply do not watch it or read it. I do not care.
Speaking of that topic, I don't see what Afghanistan has to do with the average American? So many of us are struggling to pay our rent because rent is through the roof nowadays, we're struggling here within this country. I mean Afghanistan is moreso an issue for our government if it has to do with relations between us and their nation. all of this news on Afghanistan and it's not even really relevant to us. Also, that part of the world has always had turmoil. It's not like it's something new in that part of the world. Could it be escapism why the American media focuses on a lot of topics that really aren't relevant to most of us? I can't watch it but I don't recall years ago being this affected by the news. Maybe it got more negative than it was in the past? I can't recall those details, I just know now at my age, 5-10 minutes of the news and I feel extremely anxious and worried about things happening all over, oftentimes not even relevant to my life!
Nowdays, I mostly watch the images on TV of the news, cuz I often mute the TV to not listen to the sad story the news talk about. This world seems to not change at all, everyday a sad news appears, all of this makes me angry. Maybe I should stop watching it.
It's an illegal war. **** The new is a program. TV programs are meant to program us to think a certain way or achieve a certain goal. Thus by not watching it, you can't be programmed.
Good points and yes I do feel like there's an agenda behind the news! I have to go back to avoiding it and just living life concerned with mostly what's going on around me!
Last year at the height of covid hysteria, I had a practice of telling myself, before opening the news: "be prepared for fear and panic." Then I would read the stories, lo and behold, they were always fearmongering and panic-encouraging. The practice of naming it was somewhat helpful for not allowing it to completely control my own emotions. Another positive way to handle it in the past was completely avoiding it except a weekly paper mailed to my house (the Economist, which does have its own problems). This helped reduce/eliminate the "fomo factor" of missing out on news entirely, but substantially reduces the emotional control. The reality is the writers of the news are either propagandists trying to capture attention, or very fearful themselves. From the outside, it's hard to tell the difference. It's an intense time in the US. Whether terrifying realities take hold is not really under any one person's control. The best I can do is be a little bit prepared for worst-case scenarios, and otherwise try to spread peace to those around me.
It's normal to be angry and sad from the news but you should not get so affected by it causing you anxiety and depression. You need to have thick skin, it's important in this fucked up world. I used to get traumatized by sad stories but now I've grown a thick skin and I get sad obviously but no traumas anymore. Learn to build a thick skin, that's what you need to do.
forget about being "informed". That's a buzz word they want you to use to sell more crap during commercials. It's all a giant racket and if you're not careful you can get as addicted to it as porn. So many people are willing addicts disguised as "informed citizens".
I probably should but I have this curiosity to know what's going on in the world. But seeing that basically there's bad news everyday, I probably should quit watching it, because it's always the same fuckshit going on.

The news absolutely repulses me. The way they talk makes me want to strangle them. I can’t believe people actually take it seriously. Sometimes if I need a good laugh I’ll watch a short clip of the bullshit their spewing about coronavirus. But that‘s it. Purely for laughs, thinking about how blatantly obvious their lies and propaganda are. I read something once about how people in China don’t watch the news cause they all know it’s propaganda. It seems all other countries have a firmer grasp on reality, than North Americans. You can be sure that the fools who have fallen hook line and sinker for the scamdemic, are news-glued. For if it weren’t for the news, and the mask mandates, no one would know there’s a pandemic going on.
It helps to know the news is nothing more than a sort of shampoo commercial, it is not organic information! It's directed misinformation! The same way a shampoo commercial will claim this shampoo is the best in the world and want you to buy it. Also just like any channel has slots and seasons to fill, all news channel needs to fill up their slots, this month it's about this lie and fear mongering, next about something else, etc.. They have to work hard to keep it filled with never ending lies and propaganda. You have to appreciate all the work the "tribe" psychologists put. This is actually a good representation of it Afghanistan, is a little distraction, just in case people were bored from the big hoax started in 2020, you know like a sidekick episode. Also its purpose was to encourage immigration and to have you accept it (The infamous plane evacuation scene was staged to make you sympathetic) It also establishes a new boogeyman, it's been a while since they hyped up ISIS type villians, you know it's like switching from Sci-fi to sandals then from sandals to sci-fi, have to keep them entertained. They could even make a hero's journey of transforming these villain organizations. You never know what they are up to, or maybe they want another villain like North Korea to have more episode in their entertainment series. In short do not watch the news
