Before anyone reads any further, no. This is not me complaining about how hard the quitting process is or wanting to relapse or anything like that. In actuality, I just put myself in a dumb situation that could lead to relapse if I'm not careful. I have to write a paper for my ethics class this summer and my idiot self chose porn as my topic. I haven't looked at anything bad so far, but I can tell just seeing words associated with porn, even in a purely academic context, is starting to get some of the wrong gears turning in my head. I've been taking regular breaks to get away from it but I guess that's all I can do until I'm done with the stupid thing. Really doesn't help that I have one of the worst cases of writer's block I've ever experienced...
Maybe your paper will help someone to quit porn. You could look at it that way. I know a tip for writer's block. Grab a book and start typing out a paragraph from it. You should find it easier to write your own words afterwards. Just don't forget to delete the paragraph you copied from the book.
I've never heard of that before! That's a great tip! I'll give that a shot! Also, that's a good way to look at the paper as well.
Well, I have to hand it to you: you made this difficult in a unique way. That could actually be really interesting. You would be well educated about the topic, much more so than others. Especially in the area of ethics, which I think is lacking. Here's something that might help you get started. It's from the book "Beyond Freedom and Dignity" by BF Skinner, which I highly recommend. "The Goncourt brothers noted the rise of pornography in the France of their day: 'Pornographic literature,' they wrote, 'serves a Bas-Empire... one tames a people as one tames lions, by masturbation.'
