Has anyone ever thought of getting rid of the internet during nofap just for 90 days? I am tired of relapsing and now I feel like the root cause of my relapses is using the internet too much.. I think it would be much easier to reach the 90 day streak without the internet, I'll just use a dumbphone. Anyone with a feedback on this challenge?
People fap even thinking about people in real life. You have to try it yourself whether it works for you. It didn't work out for me that well.
I would say the smart way to approach this would be to install some porn-blocking DNS connections to your WiFi. Google porn blocking DNS there are tons of them available
i think it'd be better to install blockers for certain websites that you feel like could cause you to relapse, the internet can be a great resource if used correctly
First of all, quitting the internet for 90 days is extremely hard, I don't mean to discourage you, but that's the truth. No one can live without the internet those days. Second, if you really have a big urge, you'll seek WiFi like no one can stop you. There's WiFi everywhere nowadays and it's so easy to connect and download some content on the go. So it's really useless from my point of view, you just need hard enough determination to go for it and quit even if Porn is mouse clicks away. Don't give up too soon, my longest streak was 37 days and it was the best thing I ever did, I loved myself so much, unfortunately, all faded away when I relapsed, but now I'm trying to get back to it!
I've been contemplating the idea of stopping using the internet too, or at least as much as possible for example : using Facebook once a day for ten minutes (just to check on messages/events near me), checking my mail inbox twice a day and restraining from pretty much everything else that is a distraction, yet still using it if looking for specific infos. I can't seem to succeed in that at all, but there lies the real issue as the Internet is the ultimate procrastinating demon. With procrastination comes failure and low self-esteem leading to ways to cope : i.e. PMO. But I think even if I succeeded in restraining from the internet completely I'd find other ways to avoid doing the things I have to do. So it seems like it's something more of a mindset, of an organisation and a methodology that is needed rather than a "negative" mindset. By negative mindset I mean "abstaining from X" as a solution rather than "starting to do Y". Abstinence is only a way to do something else instead. Still, abstinence from the internet (or reducing to a certain amount of time everyday) is a good starting point to me.
Like others already said, a full stopping of the internet is very hard. Next to this, i don't think the benefits outweighs the downsides. The internet is the future, and not embracing it would be foolish. There is however a different how much time you spend on the internet. For example, i use the internet for this forum and i gain a lot of positives motivation by reading comments. But also to read my email and search on interesting topics. But like also suggested by others, i have a blocker on different sites such as facebook, instagram and ect. That side of the internet has a more negative then positive effect on my feelings. I think its about finding a balance thats works for yourself. I allowed myself to use webbrowsers on my laptop, but deleted them all on my smarthphone so there is a less urge to use my smartphone and enjoy more the moment.
I've gone one entire month( 4 times but not consecutively) without the internet. It was amazing..I even felt fear of returning to the internet...
Actually this Is brilliant. It highlights the complexity of stopping something that comes completely naturally. I like the challenge—- I think I would have to do that in tandem with a backpacking trip around a south east Asia... or something similar.
I think it wouldn't be difficult at all if you put your device away.. And get a dumbphone. I know people who are still using a dumbphone with no internet, even today. Remember that back in the days we used to live without the internet at all. We only accessed it at the internet Cafe for a limited amount of time.
Your only limitation is the one which you set up in your own mind! What makes it so hard? Does that mean we are addicted so much that we can't even take a break? I belive i can quit this thing for a limited amount of time.
Why not do it a bit differently like I will never use internet when I am alone always go to a public place to use internet. Or u can download movies/ YouTube video/ any book u need or anime beforehand and then cut internet. Or just watch TV and no internet in life. Or stay busy as hell u won't get time to use your internet. But having a good internet connection and depending on will power to not use it will lead to failure. I think its a bit hard but not impossible. My nofap is a lifestyle so ultimately u have to make yourself tough enough to not misuse the internet even if presented with opportunitties.
