Anybody feels lucky for discovering PMO addiction & Nofap??

Whenever nofap gets mentioned, I hear two main responses:
    1) Cult
    2) Pseudo Science

In general, I always search for science when it comes to believing anything I read on Internet. I can surely say that there is still paucity of "mainstream" science regarding PMO addiction. There is huge support for porn and strong denial of PMO addiction.

I got to say that Nofap is truly one of the best things in life that I feel very lucky to discover it at this point of time in my life (I'm 25). I don't care much about science when I am seeing results with my own eyes and feeling it with my own body. (even if they somehow prove nofap is fake).

I'm also so jealous of teens who are discovering nofap at very young age and correcting themselves and at the same time, I also admire them for reaching out to forums like these to seek support instead of being in denial.

I'm a strong advocate of "Its never too late". So, I actually feel lucky to discover about this at least now while I am still young instead of discovering about it at 50.

Yeah I also feel very lucky about finding nofap and PMO addiction. I really had no idea about it a week ago. I am 18 so I guess you would be a little jealous of me? :p Well, I had never heard negative comments about nofap, I have heard people saying that "science has found that masturbation is good for your health" but that is a full lie. And you are right, that is just people being in denial.

  3. The support for pornography is simply a marketing ploy. There's really nothing healthy about it beyond exploring what interests you and what doesn't. You're a smart man who not listening to public opinion and an inclination toward personal experience.

You have made two very interesting points my friend. Well, the real cult that I find out there is witchcraft and psychic reading tarot cards.

  6. Actually if you look at http://yourbrainonporn.com there is a lot of science. What's missing is people in the mainstream talking about it.

I am referring to "perceived addiction" in this context: (@54:00)

Gary Wilson himself admitted that many science papers were rejected during review and they had to change it to "perceived addiction" or something.

I too feel lucky for discovering Nofap. Beside giving me the idea and willing to abstain PM, it has caused me to start other good changes in my lifestyle either, well however some of them are still just some ideas and thoughts but still ... From what I have experienced and learned, Nofap should not be just about quitting PM, the addiction should be replaced by good habits and productive activities which are important in life, otherwise you would not get the result you expect.

  9. Actually, I only heard him mention 1 paper rejected - but the guy that wrote that paper (Grubbs), and made the change to "perceived porn addiction" then did a bunch more work, publishing, and publicizing. And another guy came along for the ride. Per the vid you linked, Grubbs has ignored challenges from Gabe Deen to distinguish "perceived porn addiction" and actual addiction. What a piece of shit that Grubbs guy is.

ETA: Your main point isn't as far off as I was thinking it was: much of the scientific world is in denial about this. The good science is there - but it's getting contradicted by the shitty science.

Exactly! Saying "Masturbation is good" is quite different from "There is no such thing as PMO addiction".

One more thing I observed is that mainstream media projects "Watching porn is fine" and Science says "Masturbation is good for health" but I hardly see science or media together giving a single statement like "Masturbation to high speed internet porn is good for health".

I may be wrong (I never seen such combined statement before but only saw either "porn" or "masturbation" is fine but not both words together in a single sentence)

btw, Of course, everyone knows that there is no such thing as perceived addiction. That's why he ignored challenge because he is going to lose that. It is a distorted term.

Sadly, it took me a few years until I realized what I was doing was wrong, and even then I thought it was only religious-wise. All the sites I looked at that spoke about the subject of stopping PMO spoke mostly about the religious issue, and a bit of the mental issue (how you come to view women), but not other issues. I guess nobody - until Nofap came - stopped to consider that there may be many ramifications to PMOing.

  12. Sadly, I don't think that's true. A few of the more corrupt "scientists" seem to have found this to be in their interests and they've been quoted in more popular places lik Psychology Today. And "no such thing as porn addiction" is something every porn user wants to hear. Especially the addicts.
