"healthy" or "moral" porn?

I have a hard time believing there is such a thing. I was recently in a support group where a moderator (seemingly well-educated in helping people with sexual trauma) supported the idea of "moral" porn and downplayed the significance of porn addiction. Needless to say this pissed me the f*&#K off >:| ....

I'm open to different opinions around this, but I felt this person was really in the wrong in this particular support group. What do you all think?

I'm not religious or anything like that... I don't actually have strong moral feeling against "erotica." But I have a problem with is the selling and distribution of bodies, the objectification of human beings, the sex trafficking, the changes in brain chemistry it creates, the junk-food-like addictive quality of it all, etc. etc.

But of course, I'm an addict myself. So am I just missing something? What do you all think? Is there a "healthy" amount or kind of porn?

The only thing I can think of as being healthy is something that is not commercialized i.e. a couple making something themselves. but idk.

I'm conflicted on this honestly, on one hand we all know porn is bad and has a lot of negative effects on people, but at the same time, I genuinely dont believe all porn is created equally bad. If we go by the more or less generally accepted NoFap logic that "porn" is an umbrella term for a lot of different things, I dont think a picture of an attractive woman in a bikini is even in the same league as the depraved shit you can find on actual porn sites. Having said that, its all about the effect it has on the brain, and in a lot of cases the sense of mystery the first picture creates might actually be more potent than the more explicitly graphic videos on porn sites, so its all down to personal interpretation and understanding what works for you. I like to look at it, like you describe, like its fast food or more generally, unhealthy food. Some people have their impulse control absolutely destroyed by junk food, and get fat, but then people like myself can eat the occasional takeaway or other unhealthy meal and exhibit the self control to not do it again for a while. On the other hand, that same person who has gotten fat due to junk food may have no issue watching porn every once in a while and be able to resist becoming addicted to it, while I am the one addicted to it and struggle every day to overcome it.

I've kinda gone on a little bit of a ramble but I hope you get what I am trying to say, I suppose the TLDR of this is that while some forms of porn may be way less bad than others, it is still irresponsible to engage with it.

So admittedly I can only think of a surface level response which is that their is no need or benefit of Porn. It comes from personal experiences but I've never watched porn and thought of how productive I was or how I was benefitting myself, but I rather felt really depressed and recognised it as a crutch. Masturbation can be done without Porn and can be healthy without it, so what could make Porn good? That's just me cause I can't think up an instance where watching Porn is a good thing, particularly from a recreational perspective.

In terms of women in bikinis or dressing "sexy" I don't think their is anything wrong with that and that it doesn't fit the definition of Porn.

There is always an argument for 'everything in moderation'.
Unfortunately this theory only works for those who aren't addicts... e.g. alcoholics can't have a couple of beers after work and drug addicts can't take recreational drugs at parties!

  5. I know a person who has this mentality, that some porn is okay. I am not going to argue with him, it’s a waste of time. Plus he has a lots of other problems, the biggest is a god awful marriage.

Sad thing is there are things I see in him that are signs of porn addiction that I’ve read about and seen in myself. Talk to him and he often times seems in a different world, disengaged from reality. When he finally responds he’s still not fully there sometimes. He has a hard time with his emotions, over reacts to small things. Also he’s admitted to wasting lots of time watching stuff other than the soft core porn.

I can’t start him on the NoFap journey. He has to make that decision himself and I hope he does.

  6. I don't think any porn is optimal. The only thing that contributes to your mental health is sex with someone you love.

As far as morality, I don't think all porn is immoral, simple nudes are probably neither moral or immoral. Actual mainstream porn though, as it currently is, is abjectly inhumane. Trafficking and abuse are the norm.

  7. I suppose that a video of a loving and normal couple having sex, talking about it and getting to know each other in a healthy, respectful way could be something positive, but not as stimulation for masturbation but more like a training video for curious and senseless youth. I've never seen such stuff though, but I've seen a lot of senseless youth!

Or like a video that teaches you practical stuff. I remember I learned a lot from one video where a guy was showing how to do a proper whole massage to your lady. There was some nudity but other than that it was very educational.

I'd say that normal porn is just evil. It destroys the lives of those who make them and those who watch them.

There's no need to drag morality into this, or make asumptions/judgements about the producers. Just look at what it does to yourself and act accordingly.

  9. Around 40% of porn is violent and a lot of the women you see in porn are either:
    A) Trafficked (sex slaves) or
    B) Prostitutes

Some of the things I saw in porn bordered on torture. If FORCING someone to be violently abused on camera so that thousands of people can get off to them being violated isn't immoral then I don't know what is.

Porn causes addiction worse then heroin, it makes you pathetic, weak, unable to have sex with real people. Yet we ban heroin and don’t ban porn. That’s bs. Porn causes unnatural sexual fetishes, escalation in your tastes. Many lives were destroyed by porn, including people who produce it. There’s no such thing as “healthy porn”, unless it’s erotic videos or pictures.

And also don’t forget about unreal expectations about your own body and sex, that we base of porn. Especially, youth who never had sex in their lives, think that that’s natural way of having sex. And that average penis is 10 inches long, and girls should have big silicone breasts.
Porn causes more problems than solves.
