A lot of people really struggle with the depersonalization and derealization symptoms as part of PAWS.

It can feel absolutely horrible, like you are floating in a fog and not tethered to reality. You can have intrusive talk or not , but you are sitting in a room and can forget you are sitting there because you are so much in your head - not because you want to - but because it is happening on its own.

Your pre-frontal cortex is responsible for focus, short term memory and executive function. When your dopamine receptors in your reward circuitry downscale, so do the dopamine in your pre-frontal cortex - which results in reduction of pre-frontal grey matter and thus the multitude of symptoms of poor focus, inability to concentrate, poor working memory .

When you are unable to focus and have poor short term memory, your brain feels almost unanchored to the present moment, which i believe has good reason to cause depersonalization and derealization , among other factors.

Training your Pre-frontal cortex can and does help with the symptoms of DP-DR.

    1. Mindfulness Meditation , twice a day

    2. Brain training exercises ( i have found Dual N back really works amazingly well, check r/DualnBack)

    3. You can also try Trataka meditation , where you focus on a single dot or flame ( i would suggest to start with dot)
Also , be careful not to do too much, too soon. If you do too much brain training exercises and meditation it can cause overstimulation and your symptoms will become worse. This is like growing a tree and you cannot make a tree grow taller by pulling at it but you can surely destroy it that way.

Other things that help are Omega 3 and Vitamin b12 supplementation and healthy protein diet. Proper sleep schedule as well
