What role-models do you use to overcome PMO (or to change for the better in general)?

In one post in the success stories section I read a few days ago, a fellow fapstronaut explained that whenever he felt the need to MO, he'd just think of James Bond and realized he couldn't picture him masturbating because he's way too cool and masculine for that.

So my question is: Who is your role model?
May it be for abstaining from PMO or being a better person in general. May it be a fictional character or a real person.

I'll start off by saying one of my greatest role models is: Hank Moody from Californication. Now this might seem like a bad choice because he's an alcoholic sex-addict who can't get his shit together and straighten his life out ;) But he is also the complete opposite of shy, very outspoken, doesn't care what people think about him and most of the time he's an oldschool gentleman when it comes to women. Of course you could argue that by being an oldschool gentleman he's quite sexist and sort of patronizing towards women (the entire show is very sexist, I have to admit...) but that's not even what I like most about this character. What I like most is that, whatever kind of shit he gets into, however badly he messes up or however bad the circumstances, he never loses his sense of humor. (And also, he doesn't like porn)

So whenever I feel weak in a situation or don't know how to talk to a girl or if I have trouble making decisions, I often ask myself "What would Hank Moody do?" and most of the time the answer looks something like this: Smile about it, man up and do whatever you feel is the right thing. Works pretty well most of the time! :)

My father, who is a construction worker and amateur car mechanic. The only technological devices he knows how to use are his flip phone, a really antiquated tablet he uses for work, a TV, and the microwave. He doesn't even have a laptop, so P is out the question for him. And I know he doesn't masturbate at all because he spends almost 100% of his time working on a project.

  4. I draw inspiration from so many people. My parents are ultimately my biggest role models, since they are both such incredible people who have achieved so much despite poor odds.

My NoFap Academy business partner Mark Queppet is damn inspirational. Check out his YouTube channel Sacred Sexuality Project as well as our joint one NoFap Academy. His videos are just so damn helpful and getting to know him on a personal level has made me a better person.

I have a friend named Matthew who is confined to a wheelchair due to his condition. Despite having a life expectancy of ~10 more years and suffering from medical issues, he is a total badass and just lives life without letting it hinder him. Same goes for many other people I've met living with chronic medical conditions.

Many people I've come across in life have inspirational stories - I draw a bit of inspiration from many of them.

Fictionally I enjoy characters that act with an impeccable code of honor and don't stress over the small things (ex: Maximus from Gladiator).

I even draw inspiration from my cat Huckle who is a badass despite all of his pain from ailments.

I saw a post on here and the guy said he always thought of James Bond, because he could never see James Bond masturbating. That has stuck with me...

Exactly who I was thinking about. Specifically the Daniel Craig Bond in Casino Royale. In control.

Thanks for the replies yall! I just realized that my dad is definitely one of my greatest role models. He's a very calm and down-to-earth person and he just simply gets shit done. No postponing, no whining about making hard decisions. I admire that.

And thanks, monkotto, now I'll have to think about Optimus Prime masturbating whenever I feel an urge coming up :D That's definitely gonna help cause I just won't be able to think of anything sexy anymore :D

Spartan warriors. Can you imagine them flapping?
They were real men of honor. Women were highly respected in their society and they were given some basic training too.
The warriors were separated from their families at a very young age and they trained and trained and did nothing else till the age of 30. Firm determination and sacrifice. They were not allowed to see their wives in their training years. They trained. They ate. They slept. There is a reason why we still talk about them.
They lived an extremely simple life and there was no place for weakness among them.

Next time if you find yourself thinking - my life sucks its been a tough few days.
Remember the spartan warriors and the brutal lifestyle they led with no excuses

  11. I really like the James Bond (Daniel Craig version) idea. When I picture my interpretation of his character, there is no room in his life for PM. Just natural O with women. Maybe a lot of women, but still natural O which is my personal end goal I hope to achieve via my mini goals.

Someone mentioned Elliott Hulse (from YouTube) and I really like his style. He is brutally real with out being rude or condescending. And he curses a lot and which may turn some off, but I curse a lot in my nonprofessional communications. Something about his delivery and logic just resonates with me. I might not agree with all his viewpoints, but overall I picture him in this situation and crushing this on his first attempt.

Lastly, there is a guy I stumbled upon on YouTube who goes under the handle "Black White Guy In America". I credit the videos he created as to how I even took the attempt I am on now seriously. I failed epically at my own previous attempts. If I didn't stumble across his videos last week, I would not have found NoFap and would most likely doing what I am trying to stop instead of writing this post right now...and continuing to make excuses as to why what don't have a problem.

Shiiiit, Elliot Hulse is indeed a fantastic guy to listen to! If I had just seen him in the street, I would've thought he's just another big muscular guy who spends too much time at the gym and never read a book in his life but that guy has got some things to say! Thanks for sharing!

Spartans are good, too. Especially in our case here, because women were respected highly in their society, like Rocky_101 said.

  13. Bit random, but my role model is the female Commander Shepard from Mass Effect (the paragon one, not the renegade).

If can be half the person she is, I'd consider myself lucky.

I have same role-model as the starter of this thread; Hank Moody from Californication. And pretty much for the same reasons. Hank Moody is smooth with women, does things his own way and is funny and charming. And he's definately not that kinda guy sits at home watching porn... From the first I saw the show, I knew I wanted to be something like Moody one day.

My biggest role models for not giving up, especially at the gym would have to be solid snake, and naruto. Sure it sounds pretty nerdy but they never give up no matter what. They work through any injury, any amount of pain, to complete their goals and protect their friends. They never give up. Not just because they don't want to give up, but because they can't give up.

That's what kreps e motivated, the idea that I CANT give up. Because its not just me at stake, it all of us fapstronauts together

    @NoJunk,

I love Californication. But Hank Moody once it comes down to it, is a pretty broken individual, with a sex addiction, which is pretty problematic. Though he did make fan of Charlie, who loved porn. The whole thing about his wife taking him back and then fighting again, got pretty old. I do though, often when I am acting spoiled put the "You can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you get what you need" song which I saw a while ago in the end of season 1 I believe. Great song. It's an interesting show for sure.

But my biggest role model is, my dad. Been through financial hell. Takes care of his mom and disabled sister. And managed to save his marriage when things got tough. Truly one hell of a guy, even with all his imperfections.

My second role model is Iron Man/Tony Stark, heavily leaning to the recent Iroman movies. Yea he's a womanizer at first but then he fell in love. And he kept going The character is so ambitious, and does everything under the sun to keep himself busy and uses his brain as much as he can....except to watch porn. And he saved the world plenty of times lol. I can't imagine Tony fapping.

It's funny cause if you would have asked me this before I would have said Batman, but dude is so depressing, it kinda got a little old :p
